The first half of Steins;Gate isn't slow, YOU ARE 😎

Awww didn't catch all the obvious foreshadowing looming over the goofy slice-of-life shenanigans? Or did the little baby too distracted with their iPad need to be spoonfed the good parts?

I think one of the first lessons that a child must be taught in school is that "boring" first half of Steins;Gate (it's actually not), is THE REASON why the second half is so impactful. But clearly the education system has failed us, like Suzuha did.

I mean, goddamn, I don't remember the last time I've seen an anime even BEGIN like Steins;Gate. And you know how many I've seen. You don't need Reading Steiner to see the vision.

"His early one-shots were a little too "seinen" for my taste. But when Fire Punch came out in 2016, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically.

The whole series has dirty, yet memorable paneling and a new sheen of engaging spreads that really gives the artwork a big boost.

He's been compared to Go Nagai, but I think Fujimoto has a far more bitter, twisted sense of humour.

In '18, Fujimoto released this; Chainsaw Man, his most accomplished manga. I think the series' undisputed masterpiece is "Play Catch", a chapter so artistically compelling, most people probably don't read the dialogue.

But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of family. It's also a personal statement about the writer himself!"

It's not an anime, but I don't know what else to put here so I'll just plug my favourite video game series.

The storytelling in many of these games are far from perfect, but what I REALLY stick around for, are the protagonists. I would not have sat my confused ass through all the convoluted plots if it weren't for Kiryu Kazuma the Dame Da Ne Guy, Akiyama the Suave King, or Itchy Balls Kasuga the friendly afro man. It just goes to show how important compelling characters are in a story, and I just love my boys.

You might explore the same location in almost every game, but the amount of depth and liveliness to the city of Kamurocho (a faithfully recreated version of the real-life Kabuki-cho) makes coming back to this map feel like a welcome home--and it especially fels that way when you know the name of every street in this fictional city.

Look, some games are far from solid video game experiences or narratives, but I don't regret a single moment with Ryu Ga Gotoku. Good vibrations.
