The first season created something special and showed real potential for further development, but I feel like the second season didn’t really deliver on that. It’s not bad by any means, but after how good season one was, I expected a bit more.

A lot of the things that originally drew me into the story seem to have been pushed aside to make room for... whatever is happening now. I’m not even sure if we’re watching the main story anymore or just a prolonged side plot. The pacing feels slower and slower with each episode.

I’m not usually a big fan of this type of show—most of the time it feels like nothing really happens and it's just a waste of time. But The Apothecary Diaries actually hits different. There’s real story development, and it's written well enough that you actually find yourself waiting for the next episode to drop.

The main character is surprisingly grounded and realistic. She’s not some perfect, over-idealized person—we see different sides of her, which adds a nice layer of realism and depth to the series.

The art style isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s definitely above average and fits the tone of the show nicely.

This season was completely devoid of seriousness, writing depth, or any developments from the first season.
I felt like I was watching a boring school cartoon.

The first fifty, fifty-five minutes of the film are the best I’ve seen from the four films I’ve seen of Shinkai’s (out of Suzume, Your name, Garden of Words and this) and this is owing to the fun kind energy brought by the main trio of a runaway kid, his kind of irresponsible but generous employer, and his high-energy crazy niece. This runaway meets a confident girl with the ability to dispel rain and her playboy nine-year-old brother, and together they try to make as much money as they can before the film passes the fifty-five minute mark.

Because after that point, the film has to ... get dark and serious, and this is according to the Japanese successful animated film formula, invented by someone, obviously, but I’m not sure who. It might be that FURRY Mamoru Hosada, who employs a similar sort of structure with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. If you’ve seen that film, a lot of what goes on is going to seem very familiar – main character has a rough start, then gets (in this case meets a girl with) a fantasy power, where the power is used and then is used too much, which has Consequences. Shinkai’s innovation to this formula is to add a gun.

All the scenes with the gun are completely dumb. You know he’s not going to kill anyone with it, so why even bother pretending. It’s a dumb part of the film, and this is a film with a lot of stupidity. The shoehorned-in musical montage at the start is so incredibly badly integrated into the film that I can’t believe that it made the final cut. The long, drawn-out running scene on the traintracks isn’t much better. The Mcdonalds sponsorship scene is so on-the-nose that it makes the melodrama of the gun scenes seem subtle.

Once the story starts to careen head-first into this melodrama it’s not as likeable. It’s not as true in the same way as the first half is. The visuals are still there though, and they are impressive, though the character designs sort of let everything else down. None of them look bad exactly, they get across who they are well, but they look like they could be in any other anime. They don’t really have a distinct style, unlike the background and lighting effects which are definitely Shinkai’s. Some of the digital effects are tacky (like the lens focus one when Suga and Natsumi are talking at the bar) but their general effect creates an original kind of photo-realism that is impressive and always nice to look at.

Pretty, fun to look at, fun for the first half, melodramatic for the rest of it – could be copypasted into a review for Your name. Tenki no Ko is better for longer but it falls apart worse. They both kind of have this world-beating, melodramatic energy that is appealing up to a certain point. Tenki no Ko doesn’t really have an excuse to be like this though, which is what makes it a bit of a weird film. This is not a typical Shinkai film but it’s been made to fit into the same kind of formula, so as a result there’s this complete disconnect between the energy and the events, especially in the film’s back half. There’s nothing really here to evoke much feeling despite a lot of feeling being shown, and that disconnect distances you from caring.

Regardless of how good or bad they are though, Shinkai’s films always give the feeling that a lot has happened in them. A lot happens in this film, and a lot of it is bad, and some of it is good, and I think it’s worth seeing.

On the isekai tier list, its safe to put this in low B, high C. No, this does not have the most interesting plot, nor the best animation. What it does have is a few peak moments, a little bit of solid comedy, and a main character who actively tries to not be the main character.

Yuru Camp is my comfort anime. New studio is not a problem because this studio still can make vibes of Yuru Camp and we continue the slice of life of Nadeshiko and her friends camping in many places.

I really like the comfy vibes when watching it after tired days and always love the characters there. The opening and ending songs are lovely maybe one of best Yuru Camp songs, the BGM also catch the calm nuances of every place Nadeshiko and her friends visited.

Sometimes I seriously sit there and think: what kind of cursed show am I even watching?
When someone first recommended Clannad to me, they were like, "Bro, get ready for emotional trauma, this anime will break you!" — so I braced myself for a mental breakdown. But the more I watched… the more I just laughed.

Anime Review: Chuuzenji-sensei Mononoke Kougiraku

This anime tells a story about mysteries and Chuuzenji-sensei, who tries to solve those mysteries. However, I personally didn’t enjoy it much for several reasons. Here they are:

1. Mysteries are resolved too quickly

I feel like each mystery in this anime gets resolved way too fast, almost like: 1 episode = 1 case. For example, Episode C ends, and then Episode D starts with an entirely new mystery... it just feels too rushed. I felt the same way in almost every episode.

The animation constantly swaps from 2d to 3d gci, to the point where sometimes it changes every five seconds or so. The cgi looks identical to Berserk 2016 animation, horrible. I picked up this anime back then when it was still airing. I was intrigued by it’s unique concept and experimental animation style. It was new to me, back then I always watch the flashy and action packed anime's and shows like this was not really my thing. But I thought how about a change of scene? try something new, so I decided to watch it and give it a try. These kinds of original anime are either hit or miss; either they become the next great thing, and other times they are forgotten entirely. I was hoping for the latter. However just a couple ... episodes in, I decided to drop it. At that time, I was confused about it’s ideas, I just didn’t understand it at all, and it felt directionless to me. Since I was prioritizing more popular shows back then, I thought it was better to drop it if I wasn't enjoying it.

Years later, a lot have changed. Due to growing responsibilities, I no longer really have the luxury of watching anime. However, I make an effort to watch some when I do have the time. Since the limited time, I always make sure that the shows I watch I enjoy it, especially those single season anime's. I didn’t completely forget about Sonny Boy, I always see it in my recommendation. I always wanted to like it, give it a second chance, that maybe I’ll appreciate it more. So that’s what I did.

7 Episodes in, its still the same, despite having a better grasp and understanding. Actually, I noticed more flaws watching this the second time.The characters, they were empty, their actions and motive was not justify, it’s like they just exist. Some scenes were unnecessary , it’s like they just happened, no whys and hows, they just show it. Each episodes felt disconnected to each other. There was no logic and payoff. The show did have some high points, such as in episode 6, but overall, there were more low points than high points. Again I was considering to drop it, I was struggling to watch it, it felt like I’m forcing myself, but I thought since I’m already halfway I should just finish it, maybe it would get better.

As you can see, I rated this anime very high, but so far my review is not reflecting and giving the justice to the score that I gave this anime. It seems like I am criticizing it, and really up until this point I thought it was reasonable. I want this anime to be good, with me continuing it hopefully it is a decision that I won’t regret...

I hadn’t noticed how quickly it flew by—it was over in a flash. You know a show is really good when you completely forget about everything else around you. It pulls you in and makes you lose track of time. That’s exactly how I felt watching episode 8 through the last episodes; I barely noticed the episodes slipping past. The payoff was fantastic. Everything in the story, scenes, soundtrack, was all excellent, even the emotion was running high. Especially the last episode, the whole episode for me solidified it as a great anime, that scene still resonates with me. After watching the last episode, I had an eye opener, it made me realize that I was watching this anime in a different angle, it was not the perspective the show wants us to view it. It was not about them surviving and escaping this weird and crazy dimensions. It was about the characters it self, them experiencing adolescences, it’s about moving forward, making decisions and initiatives, carving out your future despite the grim and predetermined future. All along It was a coming-of-age anime. This realization moved me, especially from someone who can relate to them.

The last episode was the last episode for us, but for the characters it was only the beginning.

finishing the show, I re watched some episodes that hadn’t made much sense to me at first. This time around, things started to make sense, the pieces was fitting in. The episodes may not have gone in the direction I wished for, but at least I now understand why they went that way. Just like in the story, the characters chose a path, not necessarily the best one for them, but a path nonetheless. It highlights the importance of making choices, regardless of whether they lead somewhere perfect. Some of the characters still felt a bit empty or underdeveloped, but I think the show made that sacrifice on purpose. By letting them fade into the background, it was able to focus more on the main cast, justifying them.

It seems like in this review I have yapped a lot, but really I could go on and on about this show. Is this the greatest anime ever? Far from it. But shows like this don’t come a lot, it’s something that from every now and then we can appreciate it. This show is for the people who enjoy this types of show, it does not really appeal for everyone. Yes you can say that it’s not a great show, if it’s flawed and inconsistent, but I think in this show sometimes it’s weaknesses are it’s strengths.

Kudos to the people behind it, they were really passionate about this show, and I thank them for letting me experience it. Looking back at this review, it felt like it was more of a reflection really.

Is a simple quick short anime to binged and they do have some wholesome moments but if you want like a good story plot , this anime doesn’t deliver much as it has a few plot holes and no connection in the storyline , and often a lot of huge jumps here and there.

At best, it's mediocre. The potential was evident, but the execution felt half-baked, as if it were made simply for the sake of it without any genuine effort. The animation sometimes feels awkward, remaining merely average. For what it's worth, I enjoyed it. I definitely think it there are areas which were lacking, for instance the intrigue was not what I hoped for a show about political intrigue. The world and characters were interesting which were really what drew me in. It inspired me to read the manga as well, but I didn't find it nearly as grabbing. Code White film is a filler film for Spy x Family. As has to be the case for filler films, this doesn’t actually advance the plot or character arcs in any meaningful way. However, it’s still a pretty fun time and that’s what matters. So I first watched parasyte when I was a young teen, after 10 years I decided it was worth a shoot to rewatch it, needlesly to say that I wasnt disapointed.

The main theme without a doubt is the circle of life, more so focused on canivores, forms of lifes that consume other forms of life to survive, parasyte has a double meaning because parasites in a broad sense is nothing more than a form of life getting its substance from another, which after seeing the show, makes you think if there is any difference between that definition of parasite vs carnivores, we both disregard any ... other form of life apart of ourself to nourish us.

So yeah... the show spends its whole run showing how vile the parasytes are, just for us to be the other side of the same coin, and not only for being carnivours but for damaging the earth too.

Apart of that theme, there is the subtheme of growing, just like the parasytes grow in this anime, we see the main character grow aswell. We start off by being someone shy that after dealing pain to his mother, becomes a shell of itself, we dont see much of him but he probably didnt feel much if at all, would have certainly gotten bullied and would have never believed that he could be loved.

I am not saying this last part to make it seem that the anime is like something it isnt, but he undoubtly progresses as a person be it for having someone to bond, or for the many traumatic experiences. Which are two of the only ways to actually change in my opinion and the parasytes show it aswell, the two parasites with human host, the parasyte that became a mother, they bonded and grew much more than any other parasyte even when supposedly being weaker.

Lastly lets talk about the fragility of the parasytes, they mention this multiple times and if you really think about it you can really get to understand to what level of fragility they all have. We clearly see this with the 5-man parasyte, the reason he dies is not only because his weakness to compounds but also because he could not align all the parasytes to defeat izumi before regenerating.

And just like he could not align his 5 parasytes minds, I think something similar happens to every single parasyte, they need to be conceptually and mentally strong to remain whole, funnily enough they werent more easily defeated exactly because the military could not concieve of these alien-like manhunters to be frail, they are shown to think only about the possibility of ultimately killing them, which they intend to do with a high caliber shotgun. However exactly that is what makes it hard for them to be victorious.

Any use of fire, acid or mostly anything that affects cells in a pretty heavy way, just like they affect us, would have done the job much more efficiently. But they ignore that, just like we ignore everything that we put in the bound of not in our control even if it is in out total control, which goes over the many mentions of other live and the world suffering.

Indie productions aren’t especially common in the anime industry (off the top of my head I can’t name any in fact), and while I imagine it wouldn’t be the most difficult thing in the world for a solo creator to produce a moderately decent slice of life comedy short Atsuya Uki was ambitious in choosing to make Cencoroll a nearly half hour long sci-fi action flick. By all means this is more of a display of technical prowess rather than anything you would watch for a satisfying story. The characters rarely speak — aside from Yuki who I suspect is because they somehow managed to ... get the wonderful Kana Hanazawa to voice — and things sort of just happen sporadically. Yuki happens to see Tetsu and his creature Cenco, afterwards they’re seen by another boy who happens to be in control of two of those creatures and then they fight for the rest of the movie. Cencoroll makes a blatant rush towards the action, the first quarter is riddled with the kinds of quick cuts between developing scenes that are a staple of indie filmmakers who want to get to the point. As a result there isn’t anything of extreme depth to be found here but it manages to get the job done, and sets the stage for what Uki really wanted to accomplish: showing off his animation skills.

If there’s something that Cencoroll understands it’s the dynamics of movement. Maybe this is really just due to the limitation that obviously comes paired with being a solo project, but movements end up being either snappy or ridged with both being executed logically and in a fashion which is satisfying to the eye. Yuki and Tetsu may not be the focal point of the movie but all of their movements contain a urgent fluidity to them that captures the kind of movement that you’d typically see in action shonen shows like Naruto. It makes sense because generally speaking if they have to move it’s going to be because they have to evade some sort of danger (y’know from the giant aliens they control). This fluidity carries over to said danger as whenever the aliens engage in combat typically their movements will be executed with far more precise fluidity. It differs from the kind of movement that you would see from the human characters because their bodies are fundamentally different, Cenco’s especially as it constantly transforms itself into a variety of different forms. The fluidity compliments their alien bodies which are full of lengthy appendages which would naturally sway and snap as they swiftly travel from place to place. Cenco’s transformations are handled in a similar way as his body morphs like putty into whatever new absurd shape it feels like becoming. As the film progresses the size of the aliens only continues to grow and as a consequence their range of motion becomes more limited and they become more rigid. Again, this follows the fundamental understanding of motion that they had regarding the capture of speed and it creates a far rawer display of power as these gargantuan beasts tower and stumble over the city.

Of course, just as with the plot and characters, placing such a large focus on the visually impressive action comes at the price of the remainder of the visuals. Backgrounds end up feeling a little barren, even for a city the world contains extremely little detail only permitting the minimum to pass as a fitting setting to be destroyed. This kind of aesthetic style isn’t actually that uncommon nowadays in certain shows which choose fully embrace it and use the less refined style as a tool to manipulate the world more freely, but none of that occurs here. Even as we travel inward, as Cenco acts as a shield for his human commanders, the internal structure of the aliens feel a little empty and uninspired only containing generic monocolored walls of flesh. Clearly all of the imagination was allocated towards the aliens and their transformations rather than the world which inhabits them.

Cencoroll is a fairly ambitious technical showcase which demonstrates Atsuya Uki’s creative potential. While the aliens are rich in imagination I can’t help but compare this movie to the kinds of underdeveloped fantasies often seen in children. Ones which are severely underdeveloped in terms of scenario and more keen on elaborately designed monsters who will run amok in the world, destroying everything in their paths. Cencoroll may run for only slightly longer than your typical anime episode but it doesn’t even make an attempt at using any of that time towards telling a satisfying story. Half an hour is more than enough time to get an audience fully immersed into a world, either through direct or indirect storytelling, but instead it rushes past all of that in favor of action. Cencoroll may be an incredibly impressive independent feat, but the sum of its parts don’t measure up to the bar it sets for itself.

Dororo is a black and white anime produced right around when color television was being proliferated. But the choice to stay black and white was the right call, as it makes the ancient Japan setting and demonic vibes more immersive. More importantly, it adds to the series' foreboding atmosphere...at least in the first half.

You see, this show can actually be divided pretty solidly into two halves. The first half of the show, simply titled "Dororo", is really more about Hyakkimaru, the sword-swinging youth slaying demons to regain his body. The titular Dororo is a bratty kid that tags along with him. Dororo can be rather ... annoying, and the available scratchy audio quality doesn't do his shrill voice or snotty attitude any favors. But Hyakkimaru is fucking cool and it adds a satisfying feeling of progress to the otherwise monster-of-the-week story to watch him regain something new after each battle. Granted, the importance of his missing body parts is handled rather messily, but the question of "What will he get back this time?" was something in the back of my mind every episode.

In the first half of the show, storylines always spanned two or even three episodes at a time. This meant that these stories have lots of time to develop, and we got a lot of these awesome slow suspenseful eerie scenes. It's in this time spent with the freaky ass monsters that the show's black and white visuals really shine. The show felt really serious and somber and I was pretty into it. The suspenseful pacing, bloody action scenes, and at-times tragic atmosphere was, as the kids say, a vibe.

In the second half, the show appears to experience a bit of a re-tool, and this is why my recommendation is split. The series is retitled "Dororo and Hyakkimaru" in the second half, but ironically I recall the focus being more on Dororo at that point. The show has the same premise-- Hyakkimaru is still slaying demons--but the pacing and structure are altered as storylines are now one-and-done. Befitting the increased emphasis on Dororo over Hyakkimaru, there's more slapstick comedy, including an episode about a monster underneath a guy's butt, and I think he even farts on it.

The first half of this series resonated with me way more, but I will admit the final episode was great, if rushed. The quality of animation is at least consistent throughout the series, and is certainly a lot better than the few other 60s anime series I've sampled such as Astro Boy and Gigantor. I would give the first half an 8/10 and the second half a 6/10, so splitting the difference with a 7/10 seems fair. I recommend watching the first 13 episodes, and then skipping to the finale if the retool rubs you the wrong way. I don't think you'll miss much handling the show this way.
