I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this anime. Eventually you watch so many that some troupes begin to grow old. Finding out about the main characters' abilities, I for sure thought they were all going to be one trick ponies. 6/10 ~ Good start

Funny enough I found Elusive Samurai because I was trying to find ' Blue Eye Samurai' not realizing that was a netflix exclusive. Thinking I was going into a cross dressing revenge story about a samurai... well that made the first few episodes a bit confusing haha.

The first few ep of Elusive were extremely good, with some pretty unique visuals and an interesting story telling. Similar to Vinland Saga where both stories felt like a retelling of the events that transpired, dramatized to stay interesting, describing people with superhuman strength and abilities was a good way to tell a story like ... this. I also really enjoyed that the MC was just a complete psychopath, at the age of 9 this just makes it even crazier.

The show asks you on too many front, an expectation to enjoy it:
- be somewhat familiar with Japanese history, or atleast interested in it.
-- if you do not enjoy history alot of the plot will immediately be lost on you
- both understand and enjoy classic Japanese comedy / play write.
-- I personally found much of the comedy to either go over my head or just not to be funny. I did not enjoy the presentation which hurt it considerably.
- Japanese modern day culture, and be fine with how ANIME this is.
-- despite this taking place hundreds of years ago, it uses alot of liberty with modern day problems, comparisons and even explaining things to characters with in real world modern comparisons which... was odd to say the least. I know some real history buffs who immensely enjoy Japanese coculture and what not that could not sit through this show because of how 'ANIME' this is, unless you are an omega weeb I cannot see many getting past this.
- if you enjoyed Kingdom, this felt similar ish on many of the episodes

After the first few episodes it was very apparent of how large of a story this was trying to tell and it became increasingly obvious that this was more set up then anything, and could not and was not set up to be stand alone in any capacity, if I was not stuck on a plane I would have turned it off and waited for it to be completed down the line. Very little actually happens after the first few seasons, and honestly becomes very monster of the week formula with the lessons that the MC and his companions learn, bit boring to be honest. The graphics of that first fight you see when the MC is pushed off the cliff is where I felt the entire budget for the season went to get you to watch the show... there is almost none of that at all after the fact, really felt like a cocktease... very disappointing.

I enjoyed the MC a bit, and some of the villains were enjoyable to watch, but the entire rest of the cast was pretty bad...

For me giving this a 6/10 is pretty generous, I may re-evaluate this review when I rewatch the whole show in its entirety when it is concluded.

This show was definitely a bit of a mixed bag.

It took the typical "I want to be the greatest" plot and flipped it on its head. The MC, Noel, is not a good person. If anything, he's kind of evil. But there is logic to everything he does in the show and watching his little schemes to get ahead is what makes the show entertaining. Although the show would have benefitted from showing a little bit more of Noel's set-ups instead of plopping them down on the table most of the time. - The story is actually good. It's fun to see some of the end results in the Hero storyline and wonder how you get there from Kumoko's story. Spy x Family is an anime that excels in terms of how several very different stories intersect. The first story would be of the spy Loid, codename Twilight. He is one of the best spies of Westalis and is operating in the middle of Ostania — wherein Ostania and Westalis are essentially fictional versions of Cold War East and West Germany. As such, Loid is constantly given high stakes missions. These range from hunting down national secrets to preventing assassinations. This isn’t always taken completely seriously, and occasionally you get things like the missions involving ... extreme tennis tournaments. But for the most part, the spycraft is authentic as you would expect from a spy anime and is quite exciting. The writing even deals with some pretty heavy topics like the horrors of war, and although it doesn’t spend all that much time on these or get too deep into things, it’s able to convey the intended messages incredibly well.

The second would be of Anya, a five year old girl that can read minds. She starts attending Eden Academy and begins going through the standard stuff an elementary school student would. She makes friends, gets into fights, and struggles with exams. She also loves watching cartoons and even gets a dog. What this anime does really well is that she genuinely seems like a five year old girl. Anime — and fiction in general to be honest — is pretty bad at having realistic children as main characters that retain their own agency. Either they’re completely tied to other characters, or they end up especially smart or mature for their age. It was refreshing to see a story focused on an elementary school student that behaves like a simple elementary school student, despite her having supernatural abilities. It’s adorable and heartwarming.

The third story would be of the assassin Yor, also known as the Thorn Princess. Due to her parents passing away at a young age, she’s had to take care of herself and her younger brother on her own. And that led her to becoming an assassin. On top of that, she’s also maintaining cover as an office worker at city hall. However, unlike Loid, she’s not all that great at faking her personality and such. Rather, she’s somewhat of an airhead. Thankfully, despite being an assassin her natural personality is really nice and cheerful so she’s able to get along with her coworkers and neighbors. Her story I felt was the weakest of the stories, because while there is some focus on her relationship with her brother, we see essentially nothing of her being an assassin or any fleshing out of the associated organization.

The final and most important story, is the story of them together as a family. The basic premise of the anime is that they come together as a family of convenience. Loid needs a daughter in order to infiltrate Eden Academy and a wife in order to better maintain his cover. Similarly, Yor also wants a family in order to seem less suspicious. And Anya just wants a family after having spent most of her life in a bunch of orphanages. The thing is that neither Loid nor Yor know of the circumstances of the others. Only Anya knows due to her mind reading abilities. Thus, while their motivations may be different, they do their best to act as a family together. They have their ups and downs, but what family doesn’t? The important thing is that they’re definitely making progress. The family dynamic they’re developing seems really cozy, and as a result you can’t help getting really attached to them and invested in the show overall.

But as mentioned earlier, where this anime really excels in is in how all of these stories coexist. This definitely helps in terms of variety, as you get things like an episode focused on a dodgeball tournament followed by one focused on stopping a terrorist attack. And thus that helps the pacing too. But just as importantly, there’s a lot of interesting things that happen where the plot threads intersect with lots of very unique storylines. These intersections also often produce a lot of great comedy, especially when they involve side characters crossing the boundaries between stories. As a result, this is very much an anime that’s more than the sum of its parts.

The art and animation are great, both for the slower moments and the more intense ones. The character designs are also generally pretty good. The first OP definitely has a lot of style, but I wasn’t much of a fan of it. The first ED is decent. The second OP and ED are great in terms of the songs and visuals. The soundtrack was also really great, though that could just come down to me really liking ‘spy music.’

tl;dr: An anime that manages to combine a number of contrasting stories very well.

Did you miss anime back in the 1980s? Well here's your chance to experience the vibe. So get out your parachute pants and Doc Martins. Lace 'em up tight,and mousse up your mohawk, because you're in for a wild ride!

The artwork really nails the late 80s/early 90s style. The characters are drawn kind of stark and edgy. The background work is OK but seems a bit of an afterthought. They do nail the animation, and add some modern improvements to the OG style. Revy's gunslinging is kick-ass. There's some 3D tossed in here or there, especially in chase scenes. But It's blended in nicely and ... doesn't detract at all from the experience.

I thought the character designs were well thought out, but maybe a little underdeveloped. Revy is a Human Cyclone of Hot Lead. There's a touch revealed about her, but she remains mostly mysterious. And you got to love she's fanservice personified. Rock starts out as a spineless salaryman, but after being sold out by the company, starts to show a little backbone. He's got half a brain in his head. There's some great supporting characters that might have been fleshed out a little better, but aren't entirely 2D either. Dutch in particular reminded me a lot of a guy named Jet.

Speaking of which, there is the narrative. I don't think it's a coincidence this has a serious Cowboy Bebop feel to it. Just about a bunch of outlaws and ne'er-do-wells taking on sketchy odd jobs as long as they pay well. On a torpedo boat instead of a spaceship. While Rock is no Spike, Revy is Psycho-Faye strung out on way too much meth. Dutch is the steadying influence that keeps things from flying off into the weeds. Like Bebop, this is mainly episodic with some short arcs. There's no real overarching plot, except create as much mayhem as possible. It might bore some, but I loved the old style action packed thriller take on the material.

The VA work for the mains is pretty darn good. Some of the antagonists were a bit cliche but not horribly distracting. Overall I thought the direction was adequate enough.

Those of gentler nature need to be forewarned though. Besides the fanservice, this is chockful of violence, gore, substance abuse, cussing and other unsavory escapades, Some folks are going to want to give this a hard pass. But if you don't fit that criteria, this is one hell of a series.

So not entirely perfect, but it sure took me back to the Good Old Days. I'd break out the gradebook. and put it down as a B+ 88/100 for it's shear audacity and my enjoyment of what it's doing. Take a dip in this lagoon when you get a chance, as long as you're not the sensitive type. .

Ore, Tsushima is, put simply, Japanese Garfield. Expect nothing more or less from this fleeting title. The story revolves around this fat, entitled cat named Tsushima that is living with this old woman who waits on him and her other cats all day. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. Unbearable protagonist, too much melodrama. I don't think I've ever seen a worse anime. It starts off well but then it all becomes ridiculously soap-operatic; even a telenovela like "La rosa de Guadalupe" wouldn't dare go that far. There are definitely pros and cons to this show. Let us begin by examining the bad and then continuing on to the good.

This show has many of the common trope issues featured in fantasy power trip. The premise is the standard "underestimated OP MC" trope, and as such it features a swooning cast of waifues who readily insert themselves into a Harem. While this is not an objectively bad thing, it makes little to no sense in terms of a dungeon party andis more so a common trope that is inserted for the sake of the viewers who want to self-insert as a powerful, handsome, ... "innocent" MC. It doesn't really do much for the story aside from making the interactions between the women and the MC more bland and boring, as by the halfway point of the season the main cast are all essentially the same woman but with varying levels of shyness. It makes the character interactions feel like one of the low points of the show.

The artstyle is the standard fantasy fair, and the characters are the standard fantasy characters, where the important characters get overly intricate designs, and everyone else gets no attention paid to them (rags vs riches, but our poor cast is never in rags). It definitely leans into the fantasy video game model of magic in universe, and they even play this side of things up with the advertisement + live-streaming stuff, but it also strips the veneer of this show from being believable.

Production feels as if it was cut short on budget after they designed the characters, so their portrayal is often off-model, and there are some scenes where this is clearly intentional (Rain sitting on Yuke's lap on the couch in the desert) but for the most part it feels like it was a sloppily handled season from the artstyle perspective. While sometimes care is taken to make sure that characters look on-model, I believe this is more-so based on reuse, as the best looking shots are those which could easily be reused, such as close ups of the characters talking, or looking over at one another at a table. For this reason I cannot say that it is a particularly beautiful or well-drawn show, and the CGI can often create so much visual noise as to make the show hard on the eyes. This is especially bad when Yuke uses any buffing spells, which cause the entire screen to be filled with flames of mana in highly saturated colors. It kinda strained my eyes.

The plot is essentially just a dungeon-diving swords and sorcery adventure featuring different quests based on the dungeons and extras. There is not really anything unique about it from the overall premise, and other shows have a similar starting point (e.g. Brilliant Healer). However, there is something to be said for the quality of intrigue that some of the episodes left me with.

The show manages to successfully engage with some very interesting concepts. There are multiple dungeon concepts introduced which actually made me care about what was going on in the story beyond superficial interest. Although it may be the case that the execution of these ideas in production was poorly done, the best thing this show has going for it is that there is genuine surprise in the story. The enemies and creatures are not all strictly new, but many of the most important plot points of the story feature beings and questions which I haven't seen done in a generic fantasy story like this before. We are left to question what is going on, and the pacing manages to successfully hook the viewer into the next episode more often than not, almost begging for a binge more than other shows with their cliffhangers. The show features some surprisingly high-concept ideas, and although they become a mundane excuse for continuing on the show in a routine, it nonetheless is interesting and motivates the viewer to engage with the story in a way which is not normal for these fantasy world stories.

I cannot recommend the show to people who are unsure about the Harem aspect, since that is probably the main selling point for the intended audience. The show nonetheless engages with some interesting concepts and has some genuinely cool drama moments in this season, even if the main important plot points will be finished by the end of this season. I do recommend this show to anyone who can get past the visual issues and doesn't have a problem with the Harem stuff.

Do you like a promising concept? Do you like clean animation? A good OST? Do you like a fun, well-rounded main character? What about an annoying second protagonist? Do you like said second protagonist having a really interesting backstory that gets cut short and feels rushed? Do you enjoy 12-episode animes that should be 25 episodes?

If your answer to the questions above was YES, then you may have found your new favorite anime!
This is Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai: a series that could’ve been really good, but fumbles most of what it sets up.

It’s the anime version of a great recipe cooked in a ... microwave.
And that’s the real shame. Because this show has the ingredients—it just never gives them the time or space to shine.

But let's start with the good parts.
I really enjoyed the OST. It felt like it blended perfectly with the show, and it stuck out when it needed to. I actually find myself listening to parts of it from time to time. The animation is nothing special, but it fits the purpose. Same goes for the art style. Nothing outstanding, but nice.
The story itself is enticing. I won’t copy and paste the whole synopsis here, but a girl who never experienced romance learns what it feels like to be in love... sure, why not? Sign me up.

Hotaru is a really enjoyable character.
It sounds weird, but her being pretty basic makes her feel somewhat unique. She is not this super aloof introvert or a permanently screaming loudmouth—she just sort of chills and lives her life. And I like that.

And then… there’s Hananoi.
He’s intense. Obsessively so. And while that could be interesting, the anime never really gives us the background we need to understand why he is the way he is.
The story drops hints. It tosses in brief flashbacks and trauma reveals. But there’s no time to sit with any of it. The pacing constantly pushes forward like someone’s watching a speedrun of their own romance.
And it hurts the character of Hananoi the most. He needed room to breathe. So did Hotaru’s, honestly—her backstory also had great potential, though at least she can get away with it because her character was sort of well-rounded to begin with. Hananoi’s was not. Before anything in this show can land emotionally, the anime’s already moved on.

And that’s the core issue: Everything just feels rushed. Character development, emotional arcs, relationship growth—they all get shortchanged. And unfortunately, it really hurts the overall flow and feel, to the point where it may even become mildly infuriating to watch.

Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai isn’t a bad anime. It’s cute. It’s watchable. It’s even touching at times. It is fine, but it could have been great. The lack of proper story development just leaves a lot to be desired. The whole anime just feels like it left too much meat on the bone. It had the pieces, but it could never put them together.

For viewers who don’t care much about story development but instead want something wholesome, funny, and bingeable, I do recommend this. Once again, I don’t think it’s bad.
But if you’re someone who loves slow-burning romance with deep, well-paced character work, this one will probably leave you frustrated.

Black Clover was definitely made to teach the anime fandom about the term "subjectivity". Many people swear by the show : it is the anime that brought them back into anime, the best "simple" story written after the era of the big 3. As many people rather despise the show for various different reasons, be it the characters, the plot progression, the pacing, the recurring "power of friendship".

What's this? "It's a Naruto copy"? Well of course, this series' motto is "Good artists copy, great artists steal", after all. Even Cinderella was not spared. Of course it's a "Naruto copy" – not a good look, by ... the way – Asta literally screams in his very first scene, and doesn't seem to stop.

Honestly speaking, the show has great potential. The author actually explores some good stuff, but it comes in WAY too late for any reasonable justification. The first 60 or so episodes are especially conflicting – their pacing is wildly inconsistent (yet somehow still slow for most of it), the characters are very cliched and uninspired, events unfold very conveniently to be even barely believable (Just one example of many – Fanzell's backstory).

Even past this, and the problems up to here are WAY too vast for me to cover in a single writeup (be it copying ideas or just narrative issues), the Royal Knights Exam shines only slightly better than the, for lack of a more nuanced word, mediocrity that precedes it. Don't get me wrong – even the first 60 episodes had some redeemable qualities, that's why I kept watching, after all – but it only picks up the pace past episode 80. Black Clover defies expectations every time, but not necessarily for the better.

And honestly, I kind of understand. Considering the second half of the show's run and how good it actually gets, the buildup was necessary. Yes, it could have been done way better, and yes, it could have been paced well, but Pierrot did what they could, and it did actually pay off.

It was incredibly frustrating to see discourse say "it gets better after 80", like 80 episodes worth of content is insufficient to be engaging. However, past this threshold, the show really picks up the pace – by 120, so much has happened that the first few arcs and their flaws seem irrelevant in retrospect. Yami and Mereoleona are actually such likeable characters, and both of them got respectable amounts of screentime in the Elf Arc.

In the Elf Arc, the plot initially progresses a bit slowly, but it is not boring – that distinction is required. Fights are interesting, the initial twist is great, and the lead up to the reveal of what actually happened in the elven land is one of the best usages of unreliable narrators and lost folklore on display. For a hundred episodes, we are fed a certain story repeatedly, regarding both the Wizard King and the Elves, only for the viewer to be told that the retellings only held a part of the actual truth.

Yet what happens? Anime Canon and/or Filler episodes, the bane of the anime community's existence. Almost 30 episodes' worth, even. Does it progress the plot? No. Does it add anything important to the overall story? No. It literally kills immersion.

And AGAIN, in the last 15ish episodes, post-timeskip, the show displays how good it can be. With probably the highest production values of all batches of Black Clover episodes created till date, the climatic showdowns were never this great before. Worth sticking with it, honestly.

This is a very conflicting series. I liked it – for its occasional narrative qualities, for its characters (I warmed up to them with time), and for the heart it showed – but I equally understand if someone dislikes the show. My advice – avoid fillers and the "anime canon" episodes (or don't, if you have the ability to tolerate them).

"Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway" starts with a premise that could have been a heartfelt slice-of-life story about loneliness and unexpected companionship. The animation is passable—nothing exceptional, but serviceable for this genre. The sound design is similarly minimal, fitting the laid-back atmosphere but not adding much. However, the story quickly derails due to extremely questionable writing choices.

**Problematic Characterization of the High School Girl**
The main issue is how the female lead is portrayed. Instead of a complex runaway with understandable reasons for her choices, she’s depicted as someone who has slept with multiple men for money, essentially turning ... her into a stereotype of a “whore.” This portrayal is not only offensive but also deeply problematic for an anime that expects the audience to sympathize with her. Family problems are common struggles for many characters, but that doesn’t justify depicting her as engaging in illegal and exploitative behavior. It’s a lazy and harmful shortcut in storytelling.

**Missed Opportunity with the Protagonist’s Arc**
The protagonist is a pure, innocent salaryman who already has a genuine crush on his senpai. The senpai’s rejection actually carried emotional depth, showing hesitation but affection — something the story cruelly ignores. Instead of developing this emotional thread, the writer jumps into a controversial and uncomfortable relationship with the runaway girl. This was a huge missed opportunity to tell a more meaningful, respectful story about unrequited love and personal growth.

**Why Not a Cleaner, More Respectful Setup?**
If the writer insisted on making the runaway girl the focus, the story could have introduced her without immediately involving her in sex work or illegal acts. For instance, she could have met the protagonist without having “slept with many men,” preserving her dignity and making her a more sympathetic, multi-dimensional character. Instead, the story chooses to sensationalize her background in a way that feels cheap and exploitative — a decision that ruins any chance of genuine emotional connection.

**Uncomfortable and Exploitative Writing Overshadows the Anime**
Overall, “Higehiro” fails to deliver a thoughtful narrative and instead settles for uncomfortable and exploitative storytelling. While the animation and sound are adequate for a slice-of-life show, the core writing is misguided and offensive. The anime tries to navigate sensitive themes but does so clumsily, resulting in a series that’s difficult to recommend. If you want a respectful and meaningful story about hardship and relationships, look elsewhere — this one misses the mark entirly.

Shishunki no Obenkyou is the only anime I watched for the plot and hentai :3.

Animation: 7/10
The animation is solid and simple. It’s nothing crazy or experimental, but it does exactly what it needs to do. What really carries it is how the scenes are directed—the action, character expressions, and art style all come together in a way that feels smooth and effective. It doesn’t go over the top, but it also never feels lazy. Just right for the kind of story it's telling.

Story: 6/10
The story is straightforward and really easy to follow. It’s about two teenagers learning about the human body in school, and then ... trying to figure it all out at home. What makes it fun is how innocent it feels at the beginning. They're not trying to be lewd—they’re just genuinely curious.
As the story continues, they start to understand more and plan to “do it” again, which actually helps develop both the plot and their personalities. It’s not deep or complex, but it’s charming in how naturally it progresses.

Art: 8/10
The art is pretty expressive and really fits the tone. The characters’ facial expressions, body language, and even the way their clothes and private parts are drawn all contribute to the idea of “new people discovering sex.” There’s a soft, almost cute feel to it that makes the sexual parts seem more like personal exploration than raw fanservice. It sticks close to the story's vibe and enhances it in the right way.

Characters: 8/10
What makes Shishunki no Obenkyou. stand out is its characters. They aren’t revolutionary or super complex, but they feel real. They’re not perfect, they make mistakes, and most importantly—they feel human.
The girl isn’t just a goofy, over-the-top ecchi character, and the boy isn’t just a blank slate for the viewer. They’re both awkward, unsure of themselves, and trying to figure out what they’re feeling—physically and emotionally.

Their relationship is sweet in a messy kind of way. It’s not some idealized romance—it’s two confused teens trying to figure out what they’re doing, both emotionally and physically. That honesty is refreshing.

Kasuga is my favorite. She’s curious about everything and isn’t afraid to ask questions, which makes her character feel alive and genuine. It’s innocent, and honestly kind of cute seeing her trying to understand how boys work.
Kobayashi is also fun to watch. He starts off pretty clueless, but once he starts to learn more, he becomes more confident and helps keep things balanced. Together, they explore and grow in a way that feels natural.

Sound: 9/10
The voice acting is surprisingly good. What really stood out to me is how they didn’t go for the usual “instant moaning” approach. Instead, the voices sound confused and panicked at first—like they really don’t know what’s going on. And that chaotic energy is kind of adorable in its own way.
Kasuga’s voice actress does an amazing job capturing that sense of surprise and innocence. Kobayashi sounds more standard, like your usual shota-type voice, but he does it well and I didn’t hear anything off about it.

Overall: 7/10
Shishunki no Obenkyou. isn’t a masterpiece, but it doesn’t need to be. It captures a weird, awkward, and very real part of growing up: that early curiosity about sex and the body. It shows that in a way that feels more honest than most hentai, and that’s what makes it stand out.

Enjoyment: 10/10
This is honestly one of my favorite anime ever. It really taps into that strange curiosity we all had at some point, and the hentai scenes are more than just visual—they show two people figuring each other out.
You never know exactly what they’re going to do next, but when they finally act, it’s super fun to watch how they react and learn together. It’s cute, chaotic, and way more enjoyable than you’d expect going in.

Undead Girl Murder Farce embraces absurdity and aesthetics from the very first episode and proceeds in the same vein, offering a wild, absurd, perhaps even corny rollercoaster ride.

The show predominantly revolves around our main cast of three characters: an immortal woman, Aya Rindo, who has lived for over 900 years; her loyal maid and servant, Shizuku; and lastly, the absurd and powerful Tsugaru, also known as the "Oni Slayer." Our cast is united by one goal: to find the mysterious man known as "The Professor," who turned Tsugaru into a half-oni, half-human hybrid; attacked Shizuku & Aya Rindo, severely wounding the former and stealing Aya ... Rindo's body, only leaving behind her head, resulting in her remaining stuck in a birdcage as the brains of the trio.

To find the mysterious "Professor," the trio head to 19th-century-inspired Victorian steampunk Europe as detectives, but not any normal detectives—instead, ones who deal exclusively with supernatural cases involving "monsters." On their hunt for "The Professor," they end up solving a number of complicated mysteries all the while meeting an interesting array of characters that you will recognize from classic fiction and detective stories.

The show's definitive strong suits are the jazz-inspired music, beautiful aesthetics, and characters. Undead Girl Murder Farce really does go all in on the absurdity of what is occurring on screen, resulting in some beautiful compositions and aesthetics, which strengthens the already smooth animation that is standard throughout the anime. While not the pinnacle of animation or art, it is definitely captivating and beautiful to look at.

In essence, the characters, music, animation, and narrative are consistent in quality and enjoyment.

That being said, the biggest failing of the show is how short it is; Undead Girl Murder Farce is only 13 episodes, which forces the narrative to sometimes have faster pacing to finish specific plot elements or 'mysteries.' Each mystery that occurs in the show is a few episodes long, acting almost as its own arc written very similarly to your classical mysteries, even ending on a classical deduction show from Aya Rindo, but at the same time, each mystery also has the main plot unfolding in the background, so in parts the show can feel "rushed." Undead Girl Murder Farce would have heavily benefitted from having a full 24-episode run instead of a short 13-episode run. This alone can be viewed as the biggest failing of the show, as it is what causes a lot of the flaws that exist in the show.

In the end, if you love mysteries and are familiar with some classical detective stories or classical fiction, you will enjoy this show and heavily appreciate the characters and variety of intriguing characters. I heavily recommend this show for a fun time that will have you staring at the screen every once in a while, shocked at what you are seeing.

In China, there is a popular genre of fantasy fiction whose target audience is the young straight male, characterized by an underdog who suddenly gains/is helped by an outside power, reaches the peak of his life, surrounded by beautiful women, and eventually becomes an absurdly powerful protagonist. In Japan, similar fictions are classified under Light novel, and many of them have already been adapted to anime, the only difference is most of them don't have the same budget and production level as "Solo Leveling". In Korea, Solo Leveling is neither the most popular manga in its own category nor the most representative. This is the ... reason why the anime of Solo Leveling is far less popular in the above countries than in the international market. After just 20 minutes of watching, audience from the East Asia already knows what it really is, what is coming next, and how will it end. Interestingly, even the readers who enjoy this type of fiction/manga/anime there don't consider they're something classic or worth recommending, cause they know it's just some mindless entertainment that helps them kill time when commuting or sitting on the toilet.

Get back to business, the decent production level of this anime can't cover its meaningless, void core. The antagonists are just randomly made up from those evil villain stereotypes, without any memorable substance that worth discussing. Where are the developments of the main character, besides the constantly leveling up and his chin filler? And how about the purpose of the existence of those supporting roles, besides their surprised face after seeing Jinwoo easily did something astonishing? What is the main conflict, and the main goal of the main character? Where are the differences between this and any other generic fantasy bullshit we have seen one million times? What else does this story try to tell you, besides the omnipotence of our hero? The answer is no, doesn't exist, nothing. It's ironic that they didn't even try to assign the main character with more personality to help the self-insertion of the audience, cause they know numerous people will jump into this boring fantasy trap automatically and unconditionally, wasting their precious lifetime. Don‘t get me wrong - an old-fashioned story can also be interesting by simply adding some analysis of humanity, some genius twists, or charming villains, but I didn't see that from this rough exhibition of the empowerment fantasy. In terms of the complexity and depth of the plot, it is not even comparable to 'Sword Art Online'. Some people might argue that this got the Anime of the Year is just like the Marvel movies win Best Picture at the Oscars and I assume it's even worse. At least we can find some top-tier special effects and production in the Marvel universe, as well as some supporting characters featuring impressive storylines.

Overall, this is just some miserably embarrassing cultural export garbage from East Asia. But I fully understand why some international audiences like it cause such mental masturbation is something brand new to them. Its existence, however, is not completely meaningless either for the industry, it evidences that any random South Korean Gary Stu manga decorated by some quality action scenes could become an instant sold-out.
