First of all, it's not a comedy anime as stated, but a drama.

And it's not a good sequel to To Be Hero either. Even though the story takes place in the same universe and we can see the two characters again in prequel.

Another mistake—though not the most serious—is that there are only 7 episodes, not 12 as mentioned.

Anyway, check it out only if you like dramas.

My main gripe is with the storyline itself, like really, what the hell was that? It took until ep. 9 before the plot properly picked up, which is such a shame considering how well they built the tension and everything in the first season.

It's also disappointing how rushed that ending was. I haven't really read the source material but it seems like they just wanted it to be done as soon as possible? This anime reminds me of some other famous works of fiction, but it somehow manages to be something very original and unique with one bold experimental idea in terms of storytelling. There were so many good ideas other than that, and almost everything was nicely put together and impressively well realized.

Naruto: Shippuden for me, is considered to be an era-defining show; It was something that was culturally influential for the time it was established and arguably STILL is to this day, and has helped shape what anime is generally today. Its by no means a perfect show, and that's what the detail of this review is for. But for what it is, it's something I do recommend people to watch and find themselves to invest their time in when they could.

Animation (8/10) - This was a show that ran from 2007 - 2017; Standing the test of time generally, it's animation style is starting to ... become definitive for its time. It doesn't hurt the viewing experience that much imo, but I do have to say: In comparison to its continuation, Naruto (2002), this one have a noticeably better quality. The movements of the characters are more fluid, and has a more expressive tones onto it.

I guess the only criticism I have is Studio Pierrot Co. (its producers), must've started slacking or doing budget cuts at the later parts of its run after The Great War arc concluded because its definition plummeted at around 480-500 episodes deep with some characters lacking details and shading as they used to. But for the majority of its run, I think they did a good job.

Storyline (9/10) - Compared to Naruto (2002), this one has a much RICHER storyline. It still bottomlines on the occurrence of The Great War, but all the major arcs that leads slowly onto that progression is seriously action-packed and filled with sensational expositions. A lot of its side characters, especially the antagonists are also well-written in terms of their backstories, purposes and so, that you can't help but appreciate both the spectrum of good and evil as the conflicts unfolds. Also has a lot of blowing and major deaths so, keep your heads up for that.

I guess one of the major flaw that I have that kept it from being a 10: Is the excruciating filler episodes and arcs they have. And sometimes they even come along in the MIDDLE of the main arc! As a breather I suppose or to extend their runtime? Idk but it's definitely annoying. Just like Naruto (2002), sometimes it would only be a couple of episodes which can be bearable but there are instances where it could span up to 10-12 eps or something. So it's like a Russian Roulette. And oftentimes those fillers don't even have any direct affect to the main story, so its basically just a waste of time. Definitely the drawback to its perfection.

Music (9/10) - Having ten years of total time to simmer on the kitchen, it definitely had a lot of time to cook a lot of bangers and a versatile soundtrack library. It still has its trademark of Traditional Japanese-like thematic mostly on its background music that implements a rich flavor of woodwind, strings and percussion harmonies.

But in terms of OSTs, it invested a lot on Japanese Rock which they did very well because a lot of the famous songs associated with the show came from this type of genre. Most notably Blue Bird, Silhouette, Sign and more, typically relying on fast-paced guitar riffs, crashing drums and snares, raw and energetic vocals into a singularity of a melody; The type of thing that would make your head bang and get drawn onto the tunes. Very lit, if you'd ask me. So props to that.

Mashle clearly runs on the fact that it's a parody of Harry Potter, with more than a handful of references to the popular movies. Henjin no Salad Bowl: The Wholesome Chaos You Didn’t Know You Needed

Every now and then, an anime comes along that throws all logic out the window, wraps it in a tortilla of absurdity, and serves it with a side of genuine heart. *Henjin no Salad Bowl* (translated loosely to *Salad Bowl of Eccentrics*) is exactly that dish—confusing at first bite, but oddly comforting once you chew on it a little. It’s like watching a sitcom where aliens, detectives, and medieval princesses cohabitate under one roof and somehow, it all makes perfect sense by the third episode. Or doesn’t. But you’ll love it anyway.

### The Illogically ... Funny Setup

From the get-go, *Henjin no Salad Bowl* lets you know it’s not interested in reality. You’ve got an ex-cop-turned-down-on-his-luck detective who ends up living with a literal otherworldly princess. Add to that a cast of characters who all seem like they were drafted from entirely different genres—isekai meets slice-of-life meets detective drama—and yet, the resulting narrative doesn’t collapse under its own ridiculous weight. In fact, it thrives on it.

The humor is the kind that creeps up on you. It's not always laugh-out-loud funny, but it's the kind that makes you pause and think, "*Wait, did that really just happen?*"—and then you laugh anyway. A particularly bizarre interrogation scene may be followed by a wholesome dinner table conversation where everyone is arguing over miso soup. It's this constant whiplash of tone that makes *Henjin no Salad Bowl* both baffling and endlessly charming.

### Surprisingly Wholesome Vibes

What sets this anime apart isn’t just its nonsensical premise, but the way it manages to be heartwarming in between the chaos. These characters may be strangers thrown together by plot contrivance, but they start to feel like a found family. There’s a kind of warmth in how they navigate their differences, support each other, and—occasionally—beat up a local thug using questionable fantasy magic and improvised tools.

It’s in the quiet moments that *Henjin no Salad Bowl* really shines. A shared breakfast. A surprise birthday gift. The growing trust between characters who technically shouldn’t even exist in the same dimension. Somehow, amidst the absurdity, the anime manages to pull on your heartstrings without making a big show of it.

Let’s talk about the opening theme—because wow. There are anime OPs that are catchy, and then there are OPs that become your serotonin boost for the day. *Henjin no Salad Bowl*’s opening is the latter. Yet another drop in the reincarnation/time travel/Akuyaku Reijou barrel of shows which grows increasingly large with every season. Tearmoon Empire primarily suffers from an overwhelming lack of focus in what exactly it wants to do as well as an extremely weak leading character.

We follow Mia Tearmoon, a haughty princess who is executed due to a revolution brought upon poor leadership from the noble ruling class. She returns to her past self along with a magic diary containing her memories from the revolution as well as her years in solitary confinement. The course of the story follows Mia as she makes attempts to fix her ... kingdom and improve her social standing as to avoid her ultimate demise at the guillotine.

This is all well and good but Tearmoon Empire made an interesting decision when designing Mia, because unlike most protagonists in these kinds of shows she lacks intelligence and never faces any consequences for her actions. Mia instead bumbles her way through conveniently fixing every problem and increasing her relationships with adversaries through pure chance. She is clearly and obviously incompetent in everything that she does and yet every person gives her the benefit of doubt and identifies her actions in the best way possible. Mia doesn’t spend any time planning her actions out, and most of the time behaves in a manner which would have negative consequences if not for every other character thinking of her as some saint figure.

Additionally Mia ends up receiving instant gratification for her actions. Not only does every character instantly pledge allegiance to her because they view her every action as some calculated move of wisdom, but her magic diary automatically updates as she effortlessly fixes every problem before her confirming that she is doing the right thing to secure her future. If this wasn’t bad enough, for some reason they felt the need to include a narrator who interjects multiple times per episode to tell the audience “through a series of misunderstandings Mia has done the right thing once again.”

Two faced characters are not a bad thing but the issue comes when the audience doesn’t have a reason to believe that they’ve pulled a fast one on the people they are winning over. Instead Mia is an entirely incompetent idiot who just so happens to win through coincidence. She doesn’t face any sort of real conflict in the show, even in situations which could have easily risen to the occasion, such as territory disputes or clashes with other nobility. Instead everyone simply agrees with or is befriended by Mia by accident which removes any of the interesting political conflict which had real potential to come out of this kind of story. Mia never has to be a noble leader who rises up to fix her country, instead her maintains the arrogant bratty rich girl personality through and through and just so happens to have everything work out for her in the end.

Everything aside from Mia isn’t even worth mentioning. The rest of cast is entirely defined by the singular trait of hating Mia in her past life and pledging eternal loyalty in her new one. Everyone else is painfully generic, either comically evil or comically oppressed, making their circumstances abundantly clear so that even the most passive viewer will feel the bruising from being beaten over the head. They don’t pose any sort of challenge or plot significance, aside from the two love interests who are equally as generic, and instead might as well be named background characters who serve no purpose other than to sing Mia’s praises or be the source of the episode’s easily solved conflict. It’s a wonder how they managed to rise to revolution and end her life the first time.

Tearmoon Empire is a show that had moderate amounts of potential. It could have introduced far more political and economical depth and forced it’s protagonist to rise to the occasion to secure her future. Instead it consists of a multitude of insignificant problems which are solved by happenstance by a bumbling idiot. An entirely disrespectful experience to anyone willing to turn their brain on.

Shiunji-ke no Kodomotachi looked pretty promising at first. Even thought he first scene was about the whole gang of sisters making fun of their brother as if he is the typical doormat rom-com protagonist, it quickly turned out that the whole sibling dynamic was actually pretty mature and level-headed. The sisters are making fun of Arata as a "pervert", but are reasonable enough to know that he is actually not that kind of person. The whole setup with the siblings not really being siblings and the resulting relationship shenannigans was quite intriguing.

But as I continued watching this show it turned out that what I initially ... saw as a strength is actually this show's greatest weakness. Because all the characters are so level-headed and down to earth, there is no real drama and no real conflict. This would still be okay if there wasn't the one thing that made this show so boring and unbeareble to me:

All the characters are so perfect and amazing that it makes me want to puke. They are all good looking and excel at everything they do. They have all amazing grades without any struggles, are athletic and smart and have no weakness whatsoever. They are so popular that they are practically local celebrities. Additionally they are incredibly wealthy to the point that they have their own staff of servants. Arata drew the short straw with his room being the smallest and it is still bigger than many people's whole appartments. They have their own gym in their house.

This setup results in a void of main characters. There is no real struggle, these kids don't have any real problems or anything really holding them back. This whole show revolves around trivialities without any substance. These problems are so meaningless that I don't care at all about them. Gosh, Minami having a hurt foot and not telling anybody because of her stupid pride took two whole episodes. The resolution was framed as a valuable life lesson, but because it is such a non-issue it falls so flat that it looked almost like a satire. It was so shallow how a character who doesn't really have any problems overcomes these non-existing problems. All these characters being so detached from any real life person makes it really hard to root for them.

Even the main conflict with the setup that these siblings aren't actually siblings falls flat because the characters have no real personalities. They are so content and conflict free in their perfect lifes that there are no real cracks in their relationships. I have to wonder what the author's intention was, because the whole story is constantly rubbing this whole wealthy-no-struggle-lifestyle in our face.

With the characters, couldn't they be even more generic? They are all such huge personality voids that I often wonder why they are even part of the show. You could remove most of them and nothing would change. It is as if all the characters were all dipped in bleach to remove all their individual traits that could lead to conflict and interesting interactions.

We have Shion the younger brother. He is such a stereotypical stylish pretty boy with the presence and personality of a brick wall. He adds zero to the show and he is just there. He is so insignificant that we don't even get to see his girlfriend.

Banri is the typical cool babe onee-san. Seiha is the logical girl with the personality of a robot. Minami is the genki tomboy and Kotono is the shy girl. With that all their personalities are thoroughly described.

Ouka is kind of the biggest disappointment. She is framed as the tsundere, but has zero screen presence and zero impact.

Shiunji-ke no Kodomotachi is a clinically sterile character void without any real conflict, any real struggle and any reason why I should care about any of these characters. I liked how level-headed the characters were at first, but eventually realized that they are like that because there is nothing interesting happening here.

I think that the greatest achievement of this anime series is definitely the art and its designs; they're beautiful to look at, the detail in every frame of celluloid is astounding. Also kudos for be the series that set the tone for the anime elf archetype design that would become famous in the next years. Deedlit was one of the first elves to be designed with not just pointy ears but very long ears in the anime world. A trait that is still very popular today (cough cough, Frieren, Marcille).

I know this will be a divisive remark, but I think this show is trying to do something similar to One Punch Man, but with the standard Harem Isekai tropes as well. To that effect, I think that under certain circumstances this show is very high quality and manages to succeed in this endeavor.

I watched this show at 1.5x speed on dub. That being the case, many of the jokes managed to not only land, but occasionally catch me off guard. In particular, the absurdity of some of the scenes, like a belt talking about its grandchildren, in the moment may not seem completely absurd, ... but it quickly builds until a genuinely funny joke appears when you were already somewhat cracked. I am a somewhat cynical person and force myself to be more understanding for many of these reviews, but I genuinely don't see what it is people complain about this show for. The writing isn't the greatest ever done, but this show is just one in a series of many of the "OP Humble MC" verse, and it manages to at least entertain while it does it.

The characters are almost entirely waifus that shotacon over the MC, regular guys with zero libido, villains who are evil for one reason or another, or the unsettling people from the MCs village. There is an argument that some of the women being so much older than the MC is creepy and I would agree to an extent if it wasn't so clearly only used for humor. The characters are utilized in a simplistic fashion, usually relegated to being "how different people would react to the strange event" writing, but this ends up only being a reflection of the relatively peaceful setting of most of the show. Whenever a genuinely important story beat is occurring, there is usually some distance put between the characters and their personalities do interact with the situation in meaningful ways. However this can't be said for some of them who get in similar positions multiple times (Marie and Mikona).

The characters have a generic fancy school uniform, and the important characters have distinct fancier clothes. It does make visual delineation between important and unimportant characters faster, however it also somewhat removes us from the experience if you are left to dwell on it for too long. Characters often are drawn off model, but this is oftentimes a shorthand before they devolve into chibi for a comedic reprieve. There are some jarring moments where the animation is lacking, but this show is not one to suffer from slideshow syndrome. We are unable to witness most of the usual animation stuff we would like to see, but that is in part due to the in-universe explaination that the characters are so powerful that dust kicks up whenever they break something, or that their actions are so fast as to be unanimated / instantaneous to keep with real time.

The production on this is a bit lackluster. It is the same generic artstyle of most fantasy shows released over the last decade, bright and saturated color tones, fields of wheat and towns built of grey cobblestone, wood, and red tile roofs. The artstyle of the forrest near the MCs hometown has a beautiful painted look for a few of its scenes, reminiscent of the painterly art of "Made in Abyss", but that is quickly replaced by normal fantasy fair later on. I wish it had stuck with the look for longer, like Grimgar, but it turns into a standard show.

They are definitely setting up for another season, and I don't think I will skip on it when it comes out. While this isn't a masterpiece, I think it is a great little romp through an LN premise which anyone who enjoys anime would find fun and funny. The gags at some of the episodes genuinely made me laugh out loud, I can't get enough of this show... And I doubt I wouldn't find them funny on a repeat watch.

There are many, many misconceptions about Attack on Titan rampant in online spaces, these misconceptions are generally what fuels the unjust hate on the ending.
And today I'm gonna address them, with (mostly) unbiased look in the story's talking points, and interviews.

1. Eren didn't care for Mikasa until s4. Thefore Eremika is forced.

We first need to know the difference between >YOU< not liking a plot point, and the story not diving into it. You can not like Eremika's story and dynamic, but saying it didn't exist until s4 is ignorance.

You know, I forget there's so much power in editing when it comes to anime.

“The Apothecary Diaries”. A series I couldn't see myself enjoying too much. A story about old China. An apothecary is trafficked to be sold as a servant to a concubine palace where she wishes not to stick out, but her medical knowledge far exceeds that of everybody else. Her desires to not see anyone dying from preventable problems, make her hiding impossible.

The premise does sound good, but I had an inkling on the presentation.

After recently watching other anime which were severely brought down by their anime-isms, I was scared ... to find this one to follow something similar. The screenshots looked like that type of gag story which, yes, could be serious, but it had the sudden cat ears, the chibi art style change for jokes, the sound design of old slice of life absurdism which permeates anime. However, I had to give it a watch, as it was hailed as one of the best modern anime out there. They're right about everything said.

It wasn't at all what I expected. It was a serious story about the many societal issues faced at that time. Be it medical, social, humanitarian, these people feel as real as they should. They've lived in this world for their whole lives, and of course they wouldn't see many things wrong with what happens in it. The past was defined by the lack of knowledge, and a person with more knowledge in a small community makes a world of differences. A small apothecary changes the world around her, even if she wishes not to do so. By virtue of her existence, the people around her stay alive. She herself has layers upon layers of self-analysis, and reflection. She has infinite time to think about her life, and she constantly encounters things which let her ponder on her context.

Every other character fits with just that. Complex people, nor good, or absolutely terrible. All of them have many reasons to be who they are. People we don't know too much of has these little details sprinkled, which add much respect from my part. Other's have a life which is slowly revealed, just with conversations, as if you were slowly getting to know them. Everyone in the story is someone you slowly get to know, unless they get a moment to reflect on their lives.

This series strips down the clichés in presentation, and extrapolates everything that works, and everything that doesn't, and creates a piece of work which I haven't experienced in such a long time. Comedy bits stopped right as it was enough, sudden flashes of deeply important expressions occurred, something which I don't think I've seen outside more psychological stories. Tense scenes lack music, and tensions are added by showing inserts, small coverage of the surroundings. It's an anime which knows the power of a thought-cut, a Chekov gun, a knife, which could be used as a violent climax, even if it doesn't. Showing before telling, and using 1+1 as a philosophy.

I can't express this enough. This show respects you enough to put the pieces together. There are so many moments where information is very new to us, but the show doesn't pull attention towards it as much as anime usually does. The characters talk about it normally, because it is for them. The world around them isn't trying to make the information important, unless it's something they just found out. Everything is inferred, changed, all based on who is experiencing information.

I adore this show. It's amazingly well-paced, funny when it has to be, entertaining, beautiful, soul-crushing, and slow, brooding, when it must. It stops at times, and lets you soak in the themes of a scene. The show tries a little hard sometimes to really get a point across, by being subtle-forced, where it's like “please get it, please get it”, but yes show, I do get it, and I appreciate it.

Almost nothing wrong with the show. The historical details are so great to see on screen, too. Like there being things like greenhouses constructed out of whim of the higher-ups, without the people giving the thing the name itself. Things like that enrich the story so much, it's insane. All this, with stellar animation to boot.

9.4/10. Almost a 10, if it weren't for some episodes being a little cumbersome to get through.

Clocking in at just over twenty minutes, Plastic Neesan is a girl’s club gag comedy that never deviates from its main premise. Given the run-time, it’s a bit of a no-brainer that its standing as a collection of two minute shorts would be unable to encompass the necessities found within the usual makeup of a narrative. Although shorter stories may try to deliver a profound message, Plastic Neesan is different in this regard solely due to its comedic appeal. Got some time to kill? If so, this may be for you.

Centering around three girls’ plastic modeling club, its facade of the usual club matters wouldn’t ... last long, as Neesan’s desire to be drawn like a French girl makes way for the other events that take place in a rapid-fire succession. It wouldn’t take long to find out that it’s a club where anything goes really; the only coherence consistent within this anime’s plot are the girls’ friendship, who seem to put up with each other’s stupidity just fine. Essentially, its routine use of of gag-humor similarly leaves the viewer with a feign idea of randomness, despite the fact it could come off as rather consistent. Plastic Neesan’s humor could be plotted on a spectrum between childish slapstick humor, mediocre fan-service, or the occasional outlier that finds its way in-between the two. Although there’s not much to gague besides that, its comedy is typical for a run-of-the-mill gag comedy at a school; none of the jokes really land. Leagues below other gag comedies, it seems to pay homage to Cromartie Highschool by incorporating a gorilla into its story into one of its shorts. Plastic models have little relevance, as we’d come to see that they simply do what models to best, perch upon a scalp.

The characters are all one-dimensional, and more-so exist as comedic set pieces, but that’s excusable for obvious reasons. Well, at least they’re not zero-dimensional background characters, because there’s nothing that encompasses the personality of a background character. Neesan as the main character (if one could call her that) is a strange one due to her personality being more in line with a side-gag character. Indeed, this is a gag comedy anime, but her friends both represent the “less silly” side to their friendship; typically, this phenomenon is reversed, at least in regards to Cromartie Highschool. When fed up with Neesan, her friend Okappa has the occasional burst of anger, which helps insert the high-quality level of animation in use for when she physically assaults her. Sporting a tank on her head, Makimaki is basically the “level-headed” one of the bunch, which is a kinder way of saying she doesn’t have much of a personality for a short which fulfills one purpose, and that is its gags. In addition, Okappa and Makimaki go through with a minor personality change when the comedy needs them to. All in all, they sufficiently fulfill their roles.

The artstyle is the typical moe shtick expected from comedy anime taking place at a school. Although the jokes don’t often land, the slapstick helps it become more expressive, often to some minor success when it comes to actually improving said comedy. Plastic Neesan is cute at times, and she seems to be indestructible when going up against Okappa’s anger. Again, the animation is quite good and the rest of the short’s contents don’t really do it any justice, it’s fluid and uses a lot of unusual animation techniques to give it the illusion of high speed. Oh, and the five second title card animation was pretty good to, surpassing most other aspects of the art.

What else is there? Not much really, this anime is unremarkable for the most part, and definitely not as funny as some would make it out to be. The title, for one, is almost misleading and more-so exists to set its comedic situations up. Besides that, the animation stands out when compared to the very structure of this short, which is surprising when good animation mostly a supporting element. Although it justifies its run-time, it’s hard to see this as memorable in the long-run.

Cromartie Highschool is miles better, and definitively went beyond an expressionless viewing experience.

Went in expecting some generic slop, instead I was met with a pleasant feels-good romcom. This has nothing which sets it apart from others which actually plays into its effectiveness as it builds on what works. The plot is unique, but it can definitely feel artificial because it's somewhat too convenient and unrealistic, but what is?

The characters set this apart from other romcoms, because even though they can all fit a cookie cutter trope character:
- Jiro, unpopular 'otaku'
- Kamo, loner wingman
- Sakurazaka, childhood first love
- Watanabe, enemies to lovers tsundere
- Minami, ikemen blonde sociable guy

This show has many problems, the least of which is that it is the exemplar of the sub-genre of fantasy anime I call "The MC is OP but that's because his upbringing was unusual". Some other examples of shows in this category include "Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows" and "Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter town". Unlike the former which manages to actually do something fun with the premise and not take itself to seriously, this show instead wants to have the best of both worlds. And I think it fails spectacularly on this front for a ... few reasons.

The main character of this show is dense, primarily because he believes he is nothing special, when he is probably the only person in the world with the capacity to do the things he does. His humbleness is at first a cute character quirk, and the show begins with him somewhat sheltered. The position as a hauler for the party of Heroes is a good starting position for him to be in if he is going to follow the same premise of someone who was degraded until he lacked any self-confidence. We constantly see himself doubting his own skills, and the story provides some contrived justification for his own lack of self-confidence. The show uses this as a mechanism to attempt comedy, however it more so just feels confusing. The joke is always the same, that he doesn't understand how amazing he is, which creates a somewhat confusing contrast. He himself is humble, but the show can't stop glazing him. It makes the show feel like a disgusting, unaware trek through his own self-confidence issues.

The other characters fall into one of two categories: Someone who is evil and someone who loves the MC. There isn't really any in-between. Part of this is because the MC is a genuinely good person and helps out people in need whenever he sees them, but it gets to the point of feeling like the show is breaking its own back to make him look like the good guy. The people who go against him are always strictly villainous in nature, never a simple misunderstanding, and never anything that can be reasoned through or talked out. It makes all the drama of the show feel repetitive. He will somehow use his skills to fix the problem, but no emotional work is done by anyone.

If you were to take the show strictly as a comedy or slice-of-life show, then this would be fine. But the show has every indicator to the viewer that it intends to be a fantasy adventure story of some sort. While there are shows that pull off both successfully, this show instead manages to bungle both by making the plot a complete narrative mess. There is random stuff that occurs in this story, and while it is presented as a mystery or something to think about with a big reveal in the future, it instead feels like the story is so focused on trying to get to the end while still dragging its feet on any real plot changes. If I had to summarize how it feels to watch this show, it feels like we are watching a glorified Soap Opera in anime form. Nothing really changes in the second half of the season, despite the show really trying to seem like stuff is happening. There is some narrative threads that we begin to follow, however they feel hollow and lifeless, like cheap entertainment as opposed to true interactions between characters.

If you are interested in a show that may feel like nothing really goes on despite there constantly being changes to the world and the situation the characters find themselves in, then this is an excellent show. I don't really know if I can put it better than that. Anyone looking for an actually interesting show, this is probably not for you. But it is pretty good at being fantasy junk food.

Hmm, after watching the whole damn series, I’ve come to a conclusion: I really enjoyed the show.
I love how the Dragon Emperor turns soft whenever it comes to his wife lmao, he’s so fragile.
The only issue I have is the age gap. I wouldn’t mind if Jill were 14 or 15 years old, since that’s often considered mature in palace settings or historical contexts.
But nope she’s only 10. Shoutout to Jill for having the mindset and maturity of someone older (Iykyk), even though her body still gives off chill-little-girl vibes.
I love how Jill takes action and stands out, and the Dragon Emperor never disappoints me ...

Life is scary. I think we've made death, dying, and the afterlife even more frightening so as to make life seem less scary than it really is. That brings us to the supernatural horror genre, what if living life meant dealing with the dead and afterlife? It's been done a lot, dare I say, it's been to death. So, who better to adapt a manga about such subject matter than the studio who brought us Pokemon? Good ol' OLM. Here comes "Dark Gathering", a show about a trio of youngsters led by the youngest of them all who set out to collect, exorcise, and train ... ghosts all over Japan. It's right up their alley and promises to be so delightful, I couldn't wait to dig into this show: Let's GHOOO-ST!!!!

Holy crap in a sacred Sake bottle, was I not prepared for what I got...

When introduced to our male lead, Keitarou, as he enters his freshman year in college, we're shown a young man just recovering from the awful thing that has been keeping him down his whole adolescent life; a terrible curse that has marked him on his right hand. He explored someplace he shouldn't have years back, and now suffers the consequences. He has a gift for sensing spirits and as he undertakes work as a tutor, he's introduced to young Yayoi. Having lost her parents in a car accident due to a supremely wicked spirit, she too has the gift of seeing spirts. Her eyes bear the mark of the malevolent spirit in the form of skulls on her pupils, and she has dedicated her young life to vanquishing this thing that took away her parents.

Yayoi is taken care of by her cousin, Eiko, who is also Keitarou's best friend. Eiko is a very complicated character. Her love and care for Yayoi and Keitarou is without question, but she has almost a sadistic obsession with fear and the supernatural. It was this that got both her and Keitarou a matching curse and her twisted personality is perhaps the most curious and terrifying thing in this whole show. But while the living are always capable of such strange capacity for good and evil, the spirits on display here are a shockingly effective line-up of folklore, with deranged and terrible backstories that range from simple homicide and suicide to incest and cannibalism. And when you think it can't any darker, "Dark Gathering" kills the flame (literally on some occasions).

While Keitarou has suffered already, the trials and tribulations he's put through in this are almost too much to be believed. He was just getting over his first trauma and now he suffers almost daily bodily harm and near death experiences, not to mention the psychological damage of seeing into the great beyond. Yayoi is oddly well-prepared, greatly experienced, and may be the most capable little kid protagonist I've seen in an anime. Taking so much danger in stride while maintaining that trademark stare. She is still a child, and does enough so we don't forget, but her athleticism in these situations make me recall Yoda or a Son Goku than some other child hero. This adaptation is one of the more disturbing things I've seen in some time. I enjoyed it immensely as it went from a grittier "Ghost Stories" or "Ghost Hunt" type of show to something closer to "Corpse Party" or "When They Cry...".

So, why only a 7/10? Simply because.... the series doesn't have an ending.

That's right. Despite such a terrifying tour de force, the series- like the manga- has yet to end. Just as the story began to expand to include more characters and the introduction of formal antagonists, the show comes to an end as we set off for a big battle. Does this make the show any less of a splendid showcase of the supernatural? No. The odds of this show getting a second run will increase when the manga itself comes to an end. When that will be is anyone's guess, but we can wait in limbo til it does because it holds endless promise for horror fans like myself.

Until then, this gets a 7/10 that is as solid as they come. Enjoy, but be warned- like the trio who engage in these paranormal activities- this isn't for the faint of heart. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have. Cheers!

If you’re familiar with Uma Musume as a franchise, you might already know that the series doesn’t shy away from tackling more serious themes beneath its cutesy, idol-like surface. The bright and cheerful character designs don’t tell the full story—and I first noticed this back in season 2 of Uma Musume: Pretty Derby.
While I’m not here to discuss the earlier entries, I think it’s important to understand that this movie didn’t suddenly emerge with a deep message out of nowhere. Rather, it feels like a natural evolution—diving even deeper into emotional and psychological territory than the franchise has before.

So, what makes this movie feel so ... deep and thought-provoking? Let’s take a closer look.
The core story is actually quite simple—and not unfamiliar if you’ve seen previous entries in the Uma Musume series. We follow our main protagonist, Jungle Pocket, who finds inspiration to pursue competitive racing after witnessing someone else’s passion and determination.
However, she quickly realizes that reaching the top isn’t just about talent or motivation—it comes with real hardship. These challenges take many forms: injuries, seemingly unbeatable rivals, or the crushing anxiety of disappointing yourself and those around you. That being said, the message becomes clear from the very beginning: you shouldn’t give up on your ambitions despite the overwhelming fear you might face along the way.

Now, the plot summary and message might sound just “alright” to you—but what really sells this movie are its incredible stylistic choices. For the most part, the film shifts into something genuinely unsettling to watch. We get uncanny sound design and disturbing shots of the characters, making them look lost or hopeless. You can truly feel the anxiety the characters experience just by watching. Everything feels unreal, and the characters keep sinking further down, buried in fear, unable to truly move on. In short: the movie takes a simple yet deeper message and turns it into a cinematic masterpiece, balancing hope and despair perfectly.

Beyond its stylistic achievements, the film’s emotional core is deeply rooted in the contrasting journeys of its characters—most notably, Jungle Pocket and Agnes Tachyon. These two serve as opposite sides of the same mindset. One faces the fears and challenges that come with high ambitions, while the other runs away in fear, watching others achieve what she truly desires. At the end of the day, it’s up to us to face what we fear. The film suggests that true happiness comes from the courage to keep moving forward, despite doubt and fear.

There is, however, a major drawback in the film’s setting and world-building. The Uma Musume universe is introduced rather poorly, which might leave viewers unfamiliar with the previous seasons or the world of horse racing confused. Important concepts like the significance of achieving the Triple Crown or what terms like “G1 race” mean are not adequately explained, making it harder for newcomers to fully grasp the stakes and achievements.

Now, moving on to the more technical aspects of the movie: sound and animation. I’ll keep it short—both are outstanding. As I mentioned earlier, the unique sound design plays a major role in creating the film’s unsettling and intense atmosphere, and I can only reaffirm that here. The animation is equally impressive. Given that this is a movie, the higher budget is evident in the quality of the visuals. The colors are vibrant and beautifully chosen, and the movements are fluid and expressive.
Interestingly, during the race scenes, the animation sometimes shifts into a rougher, more stylized look, which effectively highlights the tension, speed, and raw energy of the competition.

To sum it up, there’s only so much I can say—this is a film you really need to experience for yourself. While the core message may be simple—don’t give up despite fear and doubt—the way the movie explores these feelings is truly unique and powerful. Its portrayal of anxiety and inner struggle feels deeply relatable, especially since most of us have faced moments of uncertainty or fear while pursuing our dreams. The film captures not only the hope and determination needed to keep going but also the very real emotional challenges that come with it. In the end, it reminds us that growth and courage often come from pushing through the discomfort and fear that life throws at us.

The ambition and scope of the story alone is awe-inspiring, especially considering it's also well executed. This show is essentially a comedy slice-of-life Isekai which is not concerned with adventure as much as generic wholesome character interactions. There is some adventure, but do not expect that to be the main appeal of the show. For a reference of another show which is similar in tone, the permise and concept is similar to Kuma-Kuma-Kuma bear, without the bear theme. To this end it is very effective, but it will probably not deliver on the usual OP MC Isekai fair, if that is what you are looking for. The show is much more relaxed and uninterested with genuine high-stakes battles.

The premise is quite ... simple: The main character dies of work-induced stress and is reincarnated into an immortal body of a witch in a fantastical world of swords and sorcery. She quickly adapts to living a simple life in the country, killing slimes and tending to her farm. After 300 years of near solitude, she has grown quite strong, and events cause people outside of the village to begin searching for her. We then follow the hijinks of someone trying to keep a low profile and live an ordinary life, while building a family with strange characters. There isn't really much of a story, and what is there is little more than an excuse to introduce characters to one another and get them to interact.

The OP MC trope is mostly there to provide security to the MC and give them an excuse to give proud characters a sense of perspective and softly humbling them without really changing their personalities. It also grants her various useful magical abilities to solve various peoples problems, along with surviving amusing but otherwise dangerous situations. Besides making the audience feel more relaxed that things will work out, it is mostly an aesthetic choice.

The artstyle is moderate, characters remain on model and the designs are in a consistent style befitting the tone and mood. The characters are cute and fit into the simplistic style of the world. It is nothing particularly unique but the entire show isn't really anything special to begin with, just generally high quality and keeping up to standards. General production is high quality and the pacing may feel slow but it's a byproduct of the genre as a whole.

The show will ultimately remain divisive, mostly because all character shows will be divisive for one reason or another. Don't expect any high concept stuff, and you may be pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere. The show is mostly here for chill vibes, and I am personally okay with a show not providing anything more than that, but I know many people have taken a negative view of this show for that very reason. For that, I cannot give it a recommend, even if it is a solid product IMO.

Out of all the anime I’ve watched in the past ten years, Frieren easily stands out as my favorite. Yes, the story is that unique. There’s a quiet brilliance to how it unfolds — it’s not flashy or trying too hard to impress, but it still manages to leave a lasting impression. I honestly don’t think we’ll see another story quite like this for a long time.
The characters are incredibly well-rounded. Each of them — from the reserved mage to the warrior and the priest — brings something different to the table, and none of them feel one-dimensional. They’re not overpowered or overly quirky just for the sake of it. Instead, they feel real. Their flaws, strengths, and the way they respond to events all feel grounded in something human. Watching them interact, grow, and carry their pasts in different ways adds depth to every episode.
The art style also fits the story perfectly. It’s soft, subtle, and full of quiet detail — just like the narrative itself. Everything from the landscapes to the character expressions helps reinforce that gentle, reflective tone the anime carries throughout.
Even if this kind of story isn't usually someone's thing, I still think Frieren has something to offer. It’s not about big action sequences or loud emotional payoffs. It’s about time, memory, and the quiet weight of the journey — and that’s a rare kind of storytelling that can resonate deeply with anyone.

At first, I thought the anime would focus entirely on Frieren outliving everyone she meets, constantly leaving her with an emotional void. And maybe that will still happen as the manga continues. Some people might even wish for a prequel showing the heroes defeating the Demon King — and I’d love to see that too.
But I think the emotional, slightly bittersweet beauty of this anime lies in the fact that we can’t recover lost time. Once it's gone, it’s gone. That’s what makes Frieren so special. As much as I’d enjoy a prequel like that, I think it would take away from the message this anime conveys so well: teaching us to value your time, because too many of us live as if we had a thousand lives or years to live.

An anime about a beast tamer that gets kicked out of the hero's party for apparently being useless from the hero's party perspective, and him going off adventuring alone and meeting different "beasts" that he tames...

So yea... beasts... if beasts were humans with a few animal features, then oh man, a lot of people are into "beasts" these days, huh?
This anime is not an isekai, but if it was, I would consider it a thrash isekai. It is just pure fantasy, but not a really well done one imho.

The story presentation is pretty cringe. Only good vibes, which quite a few times feel forced, ... MC always gets that luck to meet the beasts/people at the right time, wins them over with his basic nice guy friendliness and makes contracts with them, and they happily agree... but there's no feeling of struggle. Everything just falls into MC's hand, always at the right place and right time, saying the right things (which are just some basic words) and winning everyone over... well, besides the few "antagonists" ig, which are just your typical scumbags without an explained reason, or a very poorly one.

The whole story feels weak to me, nothing deep in it, barely any worldbuilding, easily guessed, everything exacerbated by the MC which has the personality of the "good guy" that always wishes to help and barely has any other emotions or depth to him, and the other characters being all over him because he's a really nice and "interesting" guy... All presented in a very, at least to me, cringe way, like everyone calling his name at the same time kind of way. And oh man, can the MC grow a pair of balls?? Feels like the whole anime he needs pampering from his newly acquired girls... cough... "beasts"... to actually man up and do something without being a worrywart. Sometime he does show some resemblance of confidence, but then he doesn't... You know the archetype of MC where even when they are strong af and everyone in his team are as well, and he keeps doing stuff that no one else can and everyone says how unbelievable he is, but he's all about that "oh please, I am a normal beast tamer. In fact, my whole childhood is normal!" (small spoiler: it isn't)? Ye, he's that type, and it gets old... for me it is already very old because I've already seen my share of these kind of MCs, and they weren't entertaining then, and they still aren't now. At least he doesn't shy away from doing things... even though the power of friendship trope is strong in this one....

The other characters are pretty nice, especially the ones he makes contracts with. One thing I enjoyed was the comedy in this anime. It felt pretty good and nicely presented. Also some interactions were normal good vibes, no cringe stuff... but there are moments and speeches that are just pure cringe for me. Felt sometimes like I was watching some kids show ngl.

I'm not even going to touch about the plot holes or weird plot decisions, like how did the hero's party not recognize Rein's worth as a special beast tamer? Every normal beast tamer there seems to exist there, can only tame one animal at once, but Rein can do multiple, and only him, which would make him very special, but for some reason nobody in the Hero's party and around them knew that?? Okay...

Story: 6 -- Not much of a story tbh, it kinda goes with the flow of what happens in that moment and how the MC reacts... but too many perfect moments and lucky for the MC. No struggle whatsoever, besides ig before he got kicked out, but you just get remembered that...

Art: 7 -- Pretty nice to look at art, but the fights, and there are a few of them, aren't that great. A lot of static images and then showing the results kind of fights.

Music: 6 -- Mediocre.

Characters: 6 -- I did not like the MC at all, and the others were rotating around the MC like crazy, so couldn't really see much progress or personality in them besides basic stuff. Barely any growth as well... which is a shame, because sometimes it felt like there will be quite some progress or something. Liked the comedy tho, wanted to see more of it tho.

Enjoyment: 6 -- It was a mostly meh watch with a few okay moments for me.

Tbh, for me this is a forgettable anime, so I cannot really recommend it. Maybe for someone that's new in the anime world it might seem good and enjoy it. So yea, can't say it is worth much of your time.

This isn't a typical romance anime, but not being typical doesn't automatically makes it better. Although the anime comes under the genre of "romance", I initially found it to be the most boring plot of the show. By boring I don't mean it is exactly poorly-written; however, the whole thing seemed to be run by lust. Personally not my taste. For Yukira, the motivation is lust as well as a certain "obsession" with George, this puts a great power imbalance between the couple, rendering the relationship toxic. As for George, it isn't clear what drives him to date her, maybe it is that he could ... tame her to be "better" than his mother? But alas, it seems control is what attracts him towards her. So for as long the show focused on this so called "romance", it was an extremely boring event. Despite the complex nature of it, I don't think the show itself makes a lot of efforts to make it the primary focus, if it did the story could have gone smoother. His manipulative actions and her insecurity were a perfect amalgamation of a distasteful love story. This goes on for almost the first 7 episodes; they were so insufferable that it is the first show in which I didn't root for a single character.

However, my rating is contradicting my review. But it really isn't, as the last 5 episodes redeem the show -at least- partially for me. As it started developing the individual characters more and more, especially Isabella (she is such a wasted potential). All the characters have so many quirks, which if were to be explored, could've made this series one of a kind.

But, there is a certain change in perspective that the last 5 eps brings -even though she allowed him to "control" her, there is a positive change that his "whims" brought to her life, and that in itself is a beautiful contradiction. I am not saying that George's motive was to ruin her life, but I don't think he was working in her personal interests as well. What makes their relationship appear more meaningful by the end is that, even though his acts were selfish, she benefited from it. To me, this co-incidence has a charm. But the anime doesn't really set the narration as that, which makes some viewers to actually root for them to end up together. I don't expect the characters to find the same toxicity in their relationship as I do, but the idea of two individuals finding something dynamic at the end of all their interactions, toxic or not, is something that makes their "love" beautiful.

If I see it through this lens, the ending is a happy one for me. After those episodes the main relationship started feeling more meaningful to me, leading the finale to an impactful conclusion. The relationship dynamic became more interesting.

All in all, the characters, setting, sound and animation still makes it worth a try. I just hoped that the anime had focused more on individual character exploration, the show would have easily been a 10/10 for me. It is definitely one of those shows which I will remember from time to time.

Okay, after the first season, I really hoped for something great or a more brain-damaging arc. Where is the war? Where is the rizz to battle and the determination to win? It's all, somehow, including the Jack the Ripper part, the James Bond part, and the Dark Knight part. I totally didn't understand why and how the MP fell for Moriarty's trap, and even idolized him. Anyone with an insane mind and justice personality will oppose Moriarty without any hesitation. In fact, Moriarty didn't even need to manipulate him.

I am not opposing Moriarty, I love his character. I don't really feel the story anymore ...

IT'S REALLY HARD TO DISLIKE SOMETHING LIKE THIS, IT'S PURE GOLD ALL AROUND

I think the first thing you need to know is that there’s A LOT of CONTENT in every single section possible. You’ll probably think they overstuffed the episode or stretched it unnecessarily, but it’s the EXACT OPPOSITE. Every damn scene is crafted properly to be funny, entertaining, and even memorable—you’ll definitely remember a bunch of them once the episode is over. And that’s one of the things I love most when watching anime. So, keep this in mind: you’ll feel the love they poured into making this project.

⚠️WARNING: EXCESSIVE APPRECIATION DUE TO THE ... INSANE QUALITY OF THIS PROJECT :V⚠️
Before I even talk about the humor, the animation is BRUTAL. Just in the first minutes you already see that reference to 90s or 80s anime, and throughout the whole show they’ll try a FASCINATING VARIETY of animation styles, which fits perfectly for a Slice of Life comedy where everything keeps changing.
But let me say this for the third time: every detail is insanely sweet to look at, like Sakura’s eyes or Marin’s explanations. So whether it’s varied animation or the standard one, it’s 100% enjoyable.

The humor, AAAAH, when you love something, words just aren’t enough to explain it to others. Sometimes I hated how fast it was, like the audience was full of brainrotted people, but once I realized they were using every second to throw a joke and never let the pace drop, I knew this was PURE QUALITY. And the best part? Those jokes actually have impact, like destroying someone’s house or almost ruining a couple. Bro, with 50 jokes per episode, it’s IMPOSSIBLE not to find something to laugh at in this anime.

The plot is super familiar—escaping from all the ninjas trying to kill Satoko—but that only takes like 15 seconds of each episode XDDDD. It’s just one more joke out of the 50
Now that I think about it, the side characters might seem forgettable at first, but like I said, every damn scene is made with so much care, also thanks to the voice actresses, and every time I remember them, I laugh again.

Speaking of characters—the main ones are total opposites: one is way too cold, and the other one’s just plain stupid. But they have to stick together for their own interests, and wooooow, that creates some amazing situations, like the Roboko episode. I don’t wanna copy every single line just so you get it, but seriously, just give the first two episodes a chance.

And even when I thought everything was AMAZING, I realized the production is also super versatile. They give me, IN THE SAME EPISODE, a beautiful friendship and then such a dark twist?? Just applause for that flawless production. Same goes for the OST and the voice actresses.
This anime is so solid that even someone who watches anime in 5-minute clips could die laughing for a while. That’s why I think it’s totally valid for you to consider watching it.

I didn’t find many negatives, but if there’s one thing I didn’t love, it’s that when everything is so good, even tiny moments that aren’t as great make me extra picky. But don’t let that bother you—it’s just my taste and it shouldn’t take away from everything this show accomplished.
I’m not giving it a 10 because that number is too special to me, and besides, we still don’t know how this will end. But from far away, this already looked like a BEAUTIFUL project.

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting anything from an anime with this title. I thought I’d give it a 5/10 at best, but I was so pleasantly surprised.
