Another great season delivered by Wind Breaker.

Keeping up the spirit of the first season, this one focused on Sakura's character growth, as well as strengthening the bonds with the people around him. By the end of Season 2, it's pretty clear that this Sakura is the complete opposite of who he was at the very beginning of the story. He’s gradually starting to accept others, engage with his surroundings, and rely on his buddies. It was a great experience following his journey.

I wanted to watch this anime 1 episode per day, to enjoy it slowly, but on the fourth day I just couldn't stop.

I must admit that give my opinion on this Anime is weird, for example, I can tell it is one of my favorite anime now (without ranking them), but it's also true that it's objectively a 7/10-8/10 and I have 8 since I liked it so much, even if it's not a masterpiece at all.

This will be a simple review of my favourite anime franchise, so I'll be concise.

This anime is seriously such a vibe... It has amazing visuals, an amazing and quite comfy atmosphere like no other, phenomenal OSTs, charismatic and badass characters, plot twists, groundbreaking action, an ACTUAL good MC in Shiro, etc.

It's a very unique series that doesn't have annoying tropes that you tend to see in many anime nowadays.

Back when I first joined MAL, which I believe was sometime in the Devonian Period, I frequently reviewed ultra edgy schlock, bad hentai, and other fodder to create short, comedic reviews. However, I was entirely focused on the male experience. There’s actually an untapped goldmine of schlock shoujo that I completely missed! Today, I will rectify this mistake by taking a look at Peach Girl.

I want to start off by saying at least one nice thing about Peach Girl. The music is pretty good and that extends to both the OP and ED. Honestly, nothing to complain about in this department. The mangaka also has ... a unique art style that lends itself to some striking character designs. She really loves fashion and dressing up her characters in wild outfits. This makes sense, since she was a friend and work associate of Naoko Takeuchi of Sailor Moon fame back in the 1980s. Unfortunately, these character designs don’t work as well in the anime. The more complex a character’s design is, the harder it is to animate. It doesn’t help matters that Studio Comet was spending all their money on School Rumble, which they were animating at the same time as Peach Girl. Just as an aside, School Rumble is a much better anime that you should probably be watching instead of Peach Girl.

So, what is Peach Girl even about? On the surface, it’s about the tumultuous love life of a high school girl named Momo and her struggle to choose between 2 hot guys who are both wild for her. Momo is drawn to look like a “ganguro” with dark skin and bleached blonde hair. This gets her bullied frequently at school, but the reality is that her appearance is simply her body’s unusual reaction to chlorine because she spends so much time swimming. This doesn’t actually make any sense, but it’s the explanation that Peach Girl decided to go with. We can’t really have our protagonist be a ganguro right? What Peach Girl is truly about is nonstop melodrama of the most insane variety. Multiple attempted rapes, two assassination attempts, phantom pregnancies, and more!

The driving force of Peach Girl’s entire plot isn’t the main character Momo. Instead, every conflict is set into motion by the show’s utterly deranged antagonist, Sae Kashiwagi. It is hard to overstate how hilariously evil this girl is. Sae is a sort of vampire that feeds off the misery of others and can only exist if everyone is miserable. Her plans are often absurdly convoluted and somehow end up working exactly as she envisioned most of the time. She also has the uncanny ability to seemingly exist everywhere at once. Oh, and she keeps turning into a cat, so my girlfriend and I created the head canon that she’s the daughter of Schrodinger from Hellsing and the granddaughter of The Major. It’s a better explanation than anything we get in the anime. You would expect Sae to eventually get her comeuppance for her countless nefarious deeds, but…nope. Not really. The mangaka really loves writing Sae, so she just kind of keeps getting away with it and continuing to make Momo’s life a living Hell. The mangaka even wrote a sequel series that takes place when all the characters are in their 30s and Sae is STILL tormenting everyone!

So, after everything I just said, you would expect that Sae is the evilest character in this show. Nope! That title goes to the male love interest’s elder brother. Big brother is a millionaire playboy Chad who sleeps around with hundreds of girls and breaks their hearts. He’s also a serial rapist and that’s not just me exaggerating or seeing things through a modern American lens. The anime and manga flat out admit this. His various evil deeds do get him targeted multiple times by hired goons, but he escapes the series with no more than a couple bruises. He never has a redemption arc or feels regret for his deeds. This is just a series where the worst people always get off scot-free. You would think this guy is an evil lawyer or maybe a scummy corporate executive based on his endless pool of wealth and manipulative nature, but nope. He’s a freaking video game designer/director. Yeah…sure Peach Girl. When I think of evil Gigachad running over kittens with his Farrari and raping middle school girls in the park, I’m thinking about people like Hideo Kojima, Hideki Kamiya, and Hidetaka Miyazaki. Don’t even get me started on that FIEND Yoko Taro! Why do you think he has to always wear a mask in public?

Why is Peach Girl worth watching? Every episode is a ludicrous, rapid-fire chain of events that ends in a cliffhanger. It is edge of your seat nonsense. Part of the reason this is possible is that none of the protagonists are written with any semblance of consistency. When an episode begins, we spin the bottle and whoever it lands on gets to be the idiot for that episode. A character that was perfectly rational in the last episode is suddenly denser than lead in order for more drama to happen. Usually this is the result of a Sae plot, but big brother contributes a bit of drama as well. Oh, and one time the main male love interest almost tricks Sae into getting brutally raped and is never chastised for this. I mean, what’s a shoujo for 12-year-old girls without some good ol’ revenge rape?

Peach Girl is a deeply frustrating series to watch alone, especially if you go in expecting it to be wholesome. However, if you have a romantic partner or roommate to watch it with, it becomes a bingeworthy comedy of glorious trash! If you go in knowing what to expect, I would highly recommend Peach Girl as a glimpse into a specific era of early 2000s shoujo. Peach Girl is admittedly an extreme example and kind of insane regardless of era, but a lot of its tropes and “problematic elements” are a result of the period it was written in and trends that were popular during that time. You do have to judge Peach Girl through that historical lens. If you can do that though and you temper your expectations, you’re in for a fun ride!

There's a reason why most people think that if Gintama didn't have the "serious arcs", it wouldn't have been as popular.

So, this series has a lot of jokes that would DEFINITELY get it cancelled if it released currently.

And you can't even use the argument of: "it's a comedy bro, anything can happen..." when we're talking about uncomfortable borderline predatorial sexual comments, stalking jokes and annoying fan service that get MUCH worse as episodes go by in arcs where nothing happens. And those arcs are very common btw, in fact they pretty much constitute 90% of this series.

I gave Macross 7 as fair of a shot as I could give. I love Macross and have a fair stomach for an all-cheese diet, but this is essentially one cour of a show that combines Sailor Moon and Kidd Video and stretches it to FORTY-NINE episodes... and Kidd Video still has more songs. Only the last ten episodes move at what I would call an acceptable pace, and even then, it's paying off tween-level material where the audience would be better served watching things like... Sailor Moon.

It starts with the main character. Basara, bro, you only wear the tiny, round glasses AS glasses ... if you're some sort of information broker. Kafka from Star Rail, show him how it's done. Anyway, he's brick-headed, pure of heart, and writes lyrics like somebody put "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" into a salad shooter. His only character growth is he sometimes gets sad and writes passable ballads. But his music is REAL, man! Sure. It's no surprise they have to angle away from the love triangle plotline because he's WAY too simple of person to imagine microwaving a burrito, much less be in an interpersonal relationship at that level. An awesome biker chick is completely wasted on this guy.

Basara jumps into the show IMMEDIATELY trying to be Lynn Minmay as a singer with songs that have the power to stops wars, but with nonsense, junky garage rock at the level of filler soundtrack songs for late 80's, direct-to-video action films. The only reason his music get traction is the evil spirit vampire villains have never heard music before and what tops the chart on Macross 7 is Lite FM adult contemporary; in a world of Amy Grant, the poor man's Winger is king. His fellow guitarist Mylene is a better songwriter, vocalist, and probably should've been the main character since she's the daughter of two characters from the original Macross and, you know, actually goes through more emotions than, "Why isn't my music reaching them? Is my music not REAL enough?!" She can at least pull off pop rock Runaways or some songs reminiscence of "Beatles for Sale." Veffidas is the real soul of the band, though. 10/10, Neal Peart level drummer. No notes.

I can roll with extremely basic music pretending to be the greatest ever, but the show is really this simple while trying to hoist 49 episodes featuring seven one-note villains where individual ones sometimes have to support ten+ episodes. It's occasionally monotonous to the point where the bottom-tier Jem episodes have more going on. It even makes the characters from the original Macross look bad. Milia and Max, how the HELL can you not find spirit vampires for MONTHS who are a foot taller than everyone and wear gigantic, cyberpunk headpieces?! It's like not being able to find Jason Voorhees in Lazy Town! To be fair, even if pacing didn't make them seem incompetent, they still set up and support their 14-year-old daughter being in a relationship with a professional soldier. However, the show being creepy about both repeating how Mylene is 14 and treating her like she's five years older down to the nude fan service in the second closing is a whole other essay. Her 15th birthday brings up the prospect of marriage. YOU'RE BEING WEIRD, MACROSS 7.

Macross 7 is a pack of wafers trying to be a meal. Even if you accept the music as the series wants you to, are fine with it seemingly being aimed at a significantly younger audience than the original, and acclaim its stabs at things like war propaganda as more than a blind man trying to drive a tank, it's still not filling.

You come here expecting to see fights and find a story about getting in touch with your emotions. And no, that's not a complaint; on the contrary, it's a story that was needed.

Wind Breaker had already shown its potential with its first season, and this second season had the hard work of consolidating and reaching the next level. Which it achieved without a doubt. In every possible way, Wind Breaker is a quality production, from the animation to the script and even the fight choreography. Still, despite already having everything to become a great action anime, it decides not to settle and goes one step ... further. What one expects from reading the synopsis of this anime is simply a show overflowing with testosterone. We couldn't have been more wrong because while the premise takes us to a world of fights, the protagonists are sentient beings who understand or try to understand their emotions. The script and visual narrative were key to ensuring this section reached viewers. I'd like to highlight the great visual narrative that Wind Breaker has. In a generation where we don't like to interpret and be told everything explicitly, anime seeks to challenge that, even if only a little. There are many things you aren't told, many developments that aren't on camera; it's your job to understand what's happening simply by appreciating the details that the animation has provided. Honorable mention goes to the tightrope monologue and Sakura's jump into the void; the entire scene was executed with utmost care and mastery.

I'd like to address the topic of Tsubaki because I think it's important, as she was one of the central stories and characters of this season. Setting aside silly prejudices or extremely outdated ideas, Tsubaki's story is very well-crafted. It's not about "forced inclusion" or "introducing LGBT characters to meet quotas." Those who think that sincerely haven't even seen Tsubaki's story, and the rejection or hatred they have toward these types of plots has made them speak rashly. Tsubaki doesn't tell a story as reductionist as "being an LGBT character and that's it." This story goes further, one you can empathize with even if you don't share Tsubaki's tastes. This story is about accepting yourself, that your tastes are tastes, and that there's nothing wrong with showing them off or rewarding them. No one will accept you if you don't accept yourself first. This, in addition to fitting perfectly with the anime, is a message that the show already begins to convey from Sakura's introduction to Bofurin. This may not have anything to do with the review, but as long as I exist, Tsubaki will have someone to defend it.

Wind Breaker is a story that shows us that it is possible to be sensitive and good at fighting. We all have feelings, and they affect us in one way or another. The anime doesn't seek to minimize the feelings of its characters; on the contrary, it seeks to tell a story around them. The sense of unity, identity, community, personal and collective growth. Wind Breaker isn't just about fighting, it's about giving meaning to the reason why people fight.

The Beginning After the End is a great manhwa that I stopped reading at chapter 140. The manhwa had a nice visual style, interesting characters, and an engaging setting. I really liked it.

A few years after I stopped reading it, I somehow forgot about it. Even when I saw the title again, I thought, “Hmm, another isekai?” Then I saw the rating and figured, “Let’s give it a try as a weekly watch.” But from the first episode, I was reminded that it was that manhwa I once read—and I thought, “Wait, wait, wait... what? Such a low rating for something like this?” Even some ... trash series this season and last have better ratings. Something’s clearly wrong.

So, welcome to my review, where I compare the anime version that exists in my mind (based on the manhwa) versus the actual anime adaptation.

Art:
The manhwa has a distinct and appealing art style, so it’s a clear win in that department. As for the anime, the visuals are just “normal,” with complicated monsters done in CGI. It’s still better than Overlord’s CGI monsters, but even with that, I’d rate it a 6/10—slightly above average. Why? Because a lot of anime these days rely on cheap effects and CGI. It’s refreshing to at least see some hand-drawn elements here.

Voice Acting:
Jasmine and Virion sounded much better in the version I had in my head. In the anime, Virion sounds too young for his age, and Jasmine’s voice in the last episode was honestly cringey. She doesn’t talk much, but when she does, it didn’t match my expectations at all.

Pacing:
Another negative is the pacing. I feel like the manhwa had a slower, more deliberate build-up that allowed the reader to connect deeply with the characters and the plot. The anime rushes through some of that, making it harder to care as much.
That said, it was still a nice refresher for a manhwa I had long forgotten.

TL;DR:
Haters are hating because Studio MAPPA didn’t cook this one—we got a “normal” anime with a bit of CGI. But compared to the animation from Maougun Saikyou no Majutsushi wa Ningen datta, which is by the same studio, this seems to be their general style.
Yeah, I hate the animation too. They're doing a huge disservice to all these great manhwas—whether it’s this one, Maougun Saikyou no Majutsushi wa Ningen datta, or Kikansha no Mahou wa Tokubetsu desu.

Final Words:
The overall score I’m giving this anime is based on pure enjoyment compared to other shows this season. I don’t think it deserves a score as low as 5 or 6. I judge shows by their storytelling and whether I’d ditch them for something else—or even a gaming session.
I enjoyed everything about it. I’m giving it an 8, despite the flaws, because they did a lot of disservice to an amazing work. Still, I’m looking forward to the next season.

The story really got me, I never imagined that the anime would be a musical drama before watching it and, to be honest, the only part where the anime fails is the protagonist's romance, so I'll give my grades for each point.

I don't write reviews, but I just couldn't let this one pass. As someone who enjoyed Season 1, I went into Wind Breaker Season 2 with high hopes and left disappointed. The first season had solid fights, some fun character moments, and ended on a promising cliffhanger. Season 2 keeps the great animation and high-energy battles, but the overall experience feels less focused. The emotional beats often fall flat, and the pacing doesn’t build the same level of excitement or investment.

It's perfectly aight. The characters are real goofy and over the top but likeable and the dynamics between characters is interesting and deep. The characters are the best part of this show. My favorite is the relation between Sol and Sin. It has a real mentor-kid dynamic and I love how non-verbal it is. You don't need to be told to see the layers and how each of their personalities rub against each other. Good stuff.

It's a childish formulaic isekai with your typical character tropes and minimal deviation: we have seen this plot with these characters before a thousand times. This one is the same formula badly executed, and not even fun-bad, just bad-bad.

Dandadan é aqule tipo de anime bobo que você vai se divertir e vai ser aquele anime conforto que você não precisa pensar muito e não vai ficar intediado.

Eu sempre fui meio relutante em assistir Sono Bisque Doll quando a Marin estava muito popular mas digo que me arrependo pois é um ótimo anime tirando os momentos que ele se passa tipo com a piada do cara bater uma pra se aliviar depois de ver uma foto da mina, eu gostei.

O romance em se é ótimo e bem gostosinho de se acompanhar e outra coisa que gostei do anime é o como eles desenvolvem o sentimento de auto cobrança do protagonista me identifiquei e isso fez ganhar pontos comigo. sem contar que a dinâmica dos cosplay eu adorei.

Windbreaker season 2 was an improvement over the first season in almost every way to me. Its writing, character development, emotional moments and overall flow were much better than season 1. The only thing I’d say it’s slightly weaker in is the fighting and that’s just because this season prioritized character development and story over action. This cour feels like the real starting point of the series as we finally get our first big overarching bad, Sakura really comes into his own not just as a member of Bofurin, but a leader who inspires those around him and it feels like the story has a ... clear goal and conflict to work towards now. If you felt like the first cour lacked substance or you wanted a more clearly defined plot to follow, I believe you’ll be quite pleased with how windbreaker season 2 went. I loved this show from episode 1 of season 1, but this season really showed me why it has such a devoted fanbase who see the boys as part of their own family.

I can’t even begin to count how many times this season made me cry. So many episodes just spoke to me on such a very personal level. I believe that’s because at its core, Wind Breaker is a series about self-acceptance and it is one of the best depictions of healthy male relationships I’ve ever seen. The way people in this series are so accepting of non gender conforming individuals, homosexuality and everything in between is just amazing to me. People don’t even bat an eye when they see a guy crossdressing, Sakura doesn’t show the slightest hint of being uncomfortable at a guy having a crush on another bofurin member.. in fact, he’s their biggest shipper because for him it’s just all about romance. Love is love. It’s just a very heartwarming story that the real world could learn a thing or two from. I especially loved the episodes this season focusing on Tsubakino who is one of the most interesting characters of the year, it’s one of the most tactful and interesting depictions of a non gender role conforming man I’ve seen in anime. It’s not played up as a joke, but as just an everyday thing. There’s plenty of other examples of how well written this season is from the KEEL arc at the start, to Shizuka/Suzuri’s ordeal at the end. It was a very fun and emotional ride.

Sakura was already a great MC, but this season saw him take a lot of big steps towards becoming a future Bofurin leader. Season 1 and the first few episodes of this season were the start of him opening his heart up to others, but the last few episodes were really where that comes to fruition. It’s really a night and day difference from where he started and it’s satisfying because we’ve been on that journey with him, seeing the ups and downs. Can’t express how proud of him I am!

While the character development is the big focus this season, there’s still some really good action set pieces and as you’d expect, Cloverworks cooked with them. I love the fluidity of the fights in this show. The fighting styles are also indicative of the personalities and mental states of the characters too which I think is cool. Might sound a bit cliche, but I really think you can feel the characters communicating through each punch/kick in this show. It makes the big action scenes not just cool for the animation, but also the overall characterisation they bring. Very few shonen are able to do that properly in my opinion.

Wind Breaker season 2 is a no brainer to watch if you liked season 1, but I think people who felt season 1 lacked an actual story and was just cool animation should enjoy this too if they go in with an open mind. It’s the sort of show with the sort of cast that you really start to hyperfixate on and form parasocial relationships with because they’re just that good! Very much looking forward to more of this.

I really enjoyed this season but I felt like it grew stronger as the season played out, but part of that was because season 1 ended in an awkward place. I'm glad that they didn't make season 2 end in a weird kind of mid-cour way like season 1 did. There were new characters introduced and all of them were interesting. Moonrise was an attempt by Netflix and Wit Studio to bring old space operas like Star Wars and Space Battleship Yamato to modern audiences. The result was an original title with decent production values and a terrible plot.

The visuals and animation aren’t really great. It looks like a flashy modern anime with a direction that’s slightly similar to Attack on Titan. However, they still look fine in general and are the best part of the series.

The first 6 episodes were decent. They introduced the main conflict, cast, mysteries, and delivered the first twist. It has a Gundam-esque conflict and the story progress like Fullmetal Alchemist ... (FMA). The Earth is portrayed as an utopia, while the Moon has become a dystopia, with the help of an AI called Sapientia. Then, one person started a revolution seeking independence for the Moon. While the story and the conflict are reminiscent of Gundam and others space operas, the structure, characters, comedy and other elements are reminiscent of FMA. The designs were also done by the creator of FMA, which probably explains the style, similarities, and parallels. So, this first part was tolerable.

As the series progressed, the plot became convoluted. Many events were presented in non-linear order, with excessive flashbacks and time skips, causing unnecessary confusion. In the second act (episodes 7-15), new elements and questions were introduced, but the previous ones were not developed. Some episodes completely ignored previous events. The conflict and the world were not explored. Other core elements were poorly explained, such as the Earth Council, the Human Seeds and the terraforming bacteria thing. The last few episodes seemed to be running out of ideas to develop anything, resulting in a "everyone vs the final boss" conclusion. At the end, there were more questions than answers and it felt like there was something missing. In short, it started decent, but became confusing and underdeveloped.

There is not much to comment about the characters. The story does not bother to develop them. Most part of the time, they were busy with love triangles, playing mobile video game, cooking or doing trivial activities in the middle of the war. They act and do what the story needs to progress without any reasoning. None of them seem to have organic development, impact on the story or even presence. The cast is large and the only memorable thing about them are their designs. Basically, forgettable characters.

In conclusion, Moonrise had an interesting start and decent production values, but ended up confusing, poorly developed and disappointing. It's a forgettable series, with almost nothing really worthy of praise.

This has the best writing and worldbuilding/setting I have ever seen in the not-quite-porn genre. It actually manages to have some social commentary and messages on xenophobia, and how people with disabilities interact with a world not made for them. The character designs aren't that bad if you ignore the ever-increasing bust size of each newly introduced character. For what it is ,it is extremely well done to a degree you usually don't see in this genre. By general anime standards its like a 7/10 but in context compared to its peers its a 10/10. I will die on this hill.

There's not much to say about this anime. It's a University project. For a student animation, it's really nice! The voice acting is amateurish but it's cool nonetheless. It's super short too - about 3 minutes long - but it's funny. The music is a bit repetitive even for such a short animation. Really liked the idea of using electricity sockets/plugs as energy on people and the plot twist at the end when the guy finally comes to help her and the cat she found.

It was a bit hard to find, but you can watch it on Youtube under the name 自主制作アニメ「 -socket- 」.

This show is the definition of "meh". I haven't something this boring in a while. I really should have dropped it around Episodes 4 or 5.

Wind Breaker, Round 2 — Gang fights and manhood galore, though its appeal loses its lustre over time...where is the fist-fighting delinquency that caused this disconnect?

Ever since the outing of the premiere season last Spring, mangaka Satoru Nii's Wind Breaker has been one of the shows where, like most Aniplex shows in the vein of riding the overhyped Shonen train, animation trumps storytelling and vice versa. Although throughout the anime community the show has developed its naysayers, being either in full support or hate, there's just no denying that Season 1 was a great outing of an adaptation for the majority of people, especially with ... the onslaught of Season 2, which comes back to yet another Spring season, expecting nothing but the best from a Yankee/delinquent-based show that could do no wrong.

Well...maybe I spoke too soon to admit my shallow-mindedness from my review of Season 1, because TL;DR: the more I watch of the series, deep in my heart, the more disinterested I become. No thanks for the ripple effect of how the premiere season has the copium to raise expectations higher, only to come out being disappointed by its very strengths becoming its own Achilles' Heel, I can't help but lament that the watch experience comparison between both seasons was objectively and narratively different at best. Still, I digress, though.

With Season 2 here adapting Volumes 6 to 11 of the manga (which, as of this review, is halfway through the current ongoing serialization), it's clear that Season 1's story surrounding the profound fight of Bofurin's natural opponents through their other half of Shishitoren that resides in the neighbourhood just next door is only the first of many cases of rowdiness that are to come for the rise in fame for Furin High and its students of different years, which, by that point, the MC of Haruka Sakura and his 1st-year team of fresh Bofurin delinquents were only well equipped for a fight of that stature. So then, the story expands to outside the walls of Bofurin, where the seeds of discontent would slowly sow and create quite the disparity for the series to come, exploring life outside of their comfort zone. Through the external gangs that form part of a coalition network that aims to bring Bofurin to the spotlight through its leaders and people that are affiliated with the school in one way or another, Sakura and his team find a much more sinister premise brewing in the background, that while not a part of his concern, his loyalty to become the best delinquent in all of Bofurin intertwines with the very setting he would continue to pursue and encounter, eventually changing his life forever.

What Season 2 brings are rival gangs that, at first glance, don't seem to be connected to the bigger picture within the walls of Bofurin, though with the growing reputation comes the sense to annihilate for superiority. It's there that Sakura learns about sobriety and continues what he's done with moving out of his comfort zone to consummate trust with Bofurin's students in Season 1, whose significance is amped all the more here. Both the Keel and Roppo Ichiza story arcs move the story pace one rival gang at a time, which introduces even more layers to the otherwise generic story about guys throwing fists at each other, with MORE guys throwing fists at each other, but with ulterior motives.

It's also at this stage where, although Bofurin's 4 High Kings were generally briefed over in Season 1, one of them is covered in more detail here: Tasuku Tsubakino. Bear in mind that Bofurin is an all-boys school, and the only detractor here is that Tsubakino is implied to be a transgender woman by the way he dresses up as a girl (which at first gets Sakura all embarrassed thinking he's dealing with an actual girl), though don't ever underestimate the power that he amasses, proven by Umemiya as a "tomboy with a trustworthy heart of gold" with a caring heart to fight for the people that he genuinely cares about.

So then, it comes as no surprise that director Toshifumi Akai and his team working at CloverWorks still retain their positions for Season 2 here, and although it's not as flashy as Season 1, the fight choreography still holds up and continues to be the key selling point of the series in general.

The only downgrade, however, would be one-upping the rather perfect OST from Season 1, which, given natori and Young Kee's work on their respective OP and ED songs being bangers at that, leaves quite the gap for proceeding seasons going forward. And of the new set of theme songs, J-Pop rock band shytaupe's ED song for their debut Anisong is better than I initially gave it credit for, though I can't say the same for the juggernaut that is the popular J-Pop boy band SixTones and their rather average and forgettable OP here.

It's rather obvious that for Wind Breaker's anime adaptation, Season 2's content was rather mild and tame as compared to Season 1, with much of the animation prowess and serviceable story going for it, but I've got a strong gut feeling that it's going to take yet another season of mangaka Satoru Nii's work to TRULY stand out, just like how Season 1 was done that's close to perfection. So think of what you will of Wind Breaker; it's just like DanMachi in a way, where the story notes don't beat as much in their sequel seasons, only to be disproven by the following sequel season and beyond.

The anime, as of this sequel, is generally overall decent and good, but it could be better with a touch more push.

The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows - It's actually better than you'd expect, though as the title alludes, it's not brilliant.

For as long as the AniManga industry has existed and churned out titles that have quickly become sub-genres of their very own, one such trope that always seems to make its resurgence time and time again is this "banished from the hero's party," though its execution will differ based on the story beats and how authors choose to execute their creations on the plate that's the deciding factor between mediocrity and decency (I don't even bother to mention good or bad, because what's ... the use of the metric at this point?). Some can be rather ludicrous, and others can be plain and simple and worth at least a watch (even if they aren't good to begin with), and one such case to prove is novelist Sakaku Hishikawa's Isshun de Chiryou shiteita no ni Yakudatazu to Tsuihousareta Tensai Chiyushi, Yami Healer to shite Tanoshiku Ikiru (or Yami Healer in its shortened form), a.k.a. The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows: a story that, while not original, at least has a soul that I think is worth a second look compared to other 3rd-rate shows of similar stature.

The setting of an unremarkable young boy living in the slums and growing like many of the marked "diseased" kids that are only destined for death, as the typical fantasy societal differences between nobles and commoners put it, gets quite the boost learning of a power that reigns supreme in the kingdom, a skill that is only used to benefit oneself and impoverish all others: Healers. And this has to be certified by the kingdom itself before official licenses can be given out to show that the chosen people are "called" to be as such. However, this young boy learns it differently from a "wise mysterious man" who teaches him the skill willy-nilly, and as he grows up, he gets the attention of just about any adventuring party that requires Healers because of the reputation they bring. However, the young boy, now a young man, being in aid of the party he's attending, gets booted out unceremoniously not because of him, but because of their inability to recognize who he truly is and what he can do for them. So, back to the slums where he came from, and his reputation is built from the broken buildings and dirty streets, with the help of some people he saved and managed to get their trust in him to uphold an underground clinic to earn his keep, that functions more like an actual clinic than those found right in the kingdom itself. This is the story of Zenos and his newfound "harem party" of girls and creatures of all sorts living in the slums of the Kingdom of Herzeth, which at least has somewhat of a semblance of potential plot devices, go figure.

From the outset, Zenos as a character is a lot more profound and not average, as many people would think he is. Despite his hidden self always wanting an unremarkable life where he'd work and earn his pay appropriately, his "New Life in the Shadows" begins to show more of what's truly underneath the substance of the rather unremarkable character. What you would find from Zenos is that he's a largely no-nonsense guy who acts on what he is told to do, and despite toughening out on the growing notoriety of the people he'd interact with, his calm, collected, and coolheaded politeness is matched with his intelligence and professionalism as an underground Healer who is exactly the "you get what you get" treatment. He doesn't come around for people who (un)intentionally waste his precious time, because it's time that he could've spent saving lives instead of just parading like a fool. He's the Healer for the People, not for the arrogant and prideful man.

Alas, of all the characters Zenos could've gotten for help, it had to be a "harem party" of girls of all sorts who idolize and love him, yet also give him ample respect for his utmost dedication to the slums and their kin, despite him always constantly nitpicking at their obvious advances on him, given his being skeptical and naive at times.

Starting with the girl he saved from slavery, Lily is the typical elf girl that easily could be the target of slave traders, and the need for Zenos to be her saviour "just feels right" enough for her to therefore work as his close attendant and skilled chef. The abandoned mansion in the slums is also home to the wraith girl of Carmilla, though when both Zenos and Lily "attempt" to raid her home, she finds that she's no match for the underground Healer and concedes the ground floor for their clinic operations. But none can be compared to the rowdiness of the slums' Big 3 leaders of the demihuman gangs: the lizardkin of Zophia the Tornado, the wolf beastkin of Lynga the Tyrant, and the ogress of Loewe the Mighty. Each leader with their unique circumstances, finds themselves being at the mercy of Zenos's hands, whether it be with the healing of their own kin or that the intense rivalry of the 3 gangs has him put on a pedestal to decide his standing in the slums (which he eventually becomes their big boss). Not to forget, there is an unexpected ally from the kingdom with "Iron Rose" Krishna, whose operations allude to when she first investigated the slums' happenings of peacetime rather than the standard and expected rivalry and soon finds herself being a ditz when it comes to the underground Healer himself.

All in all, it definitely feels like a cheap way to get any form of characterization, but at least there is a sense of purpose in each and every existence that affects Zenos in one way or another, and I'd rather take a story like this and just wing it as a mildly enjoyable work than suffer through one that just doesn't work for whatever reason.

The surprise bit that I find with Yami Healer is in the animation department. Not that it is good, mind you, but it's at least better than the likes of similar 3rd-rate studios we've seen for quite some time. And all of this is coming from the rather new studio of Makaria (with production assistance from Luminas), which has the bold act of debuting with 2 shows this season (this and Zatsu Tabi: That's Journey) for a start. I am definitely looking forward to more opportunities for the new studio's offerings to be released in the future.

The music is decent, though I will say that it doesn't really stand out much in the way of trying to overshadow the fantasy elements. Sure, the one selling point of Yami Healer is its homemade harem, and that's where the music complements it best. But otherwise, both of J-Pop rock band bokula's OP and solo female artist sorato's ED, being debut Anisongs at that (which is a few of the many new debuting artists this Spring season), are honestly OK and nothing memorable, just alright.

To you, the reader, you might think that I'm giving Yami Healer a.k.a The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows the benefit of the doubt, and I really do want to come out as positive as my own watching experience with the anime itself. It has potential for a growing plot, and I would appreciate it if Zenos actually had a sense of manhood within him (though I'd be hard-pressed on how to improve his character more), and the harem is generally a mess, but a good kind of mess to begin with.

It's easy to just "switch off the brain" and watch Yami Healer, because this is the ONLY brilliant way you'll get some enjoyment out of this generic but better-than-expected fantasy anime. And yes, let's just leave it at that, OK?

I think that the concept of the anime is good, with mc always deliberating and choices made in the anime are actually explained, however a gripe i have is that it starts to get a little mundane and it becomes a repeating pattern of sorts and makes it hard to watch.

Before I begin, it's worth noting that I am the first to review this title on MAL. It is my belief that every anime deserves at least one proper review, deserves to have its content engaged and reckoned with. No matter how obscure it is, and no matter how long ago it was made, an anime still represents the creative passion of its creators, the hopes and dreams of the team that made it, and as such, I will give this one a fair and honest accounting here.

There is a teeming vastness of 90s anime OVA, many of them chosen almost at random to ... be given English subs for the budding yet insatiable anime market in the west, and, inevitably, a great many of them were destined to fall through the cracks for one reason or another, languishing in obscurity despite their ostensible artistic quality or creative merit. Hayou no Tsurugi is one such anime, and, having finally given this title a proper watch after finding a subbed version deep in a dusty corner of the internet, I can safely say that it is good, classic, action fantasy fun. Even if the story relies on certain generic tropes common to the format and genre at hand, it still brings a fair bit of originality to the title, certainly enough to make it stand out from the crowd in more ways than one. First, the worldbuilding is quite interesting, taking your standard fantasy world, filling it with demon sorcerers, and a floating fortress that houses supernatural warrior hitmen called Demon Breakers who take on contracts from the human kingdoms below to hunt and kill the demon sorcerers. Excellent setup, and honestly has a lot more story potential than a simple 2 episode run that lasts barely an hour. I feel like its biggest flaw is just that this badass concept feels wasted on such a short run, and should have been expanded into something much larger given how the concept naturally lends itself to episodic iteration. In any case, the cool worldbuilding and plot is bolstered by unusually strong character writing, with the dialogue between Lath and Anshu feeling distinctly natural, oscillating between playful romantic chemistry on the one hand, and tense dramatism on the other. Finally, what really puts this story over the top is how it adds a layer of supernatural potency, between Gurenki, the demon-hunting sword that chose Lath when she was young, and the otherworldly beasts whose blood the sword literally screams out for and subsequently drinks, there's no doubt that the story is the strongest aspect of this anime, as it is clearly something more than your typical throwaway OVA fare.

A similar level of care is evident in the art as well. The animation boasts of solid character and monster designs, with a firm grasp on otherworldly evil and supernatural powers alike. Every time someone is consumed by flames, or assailed by magic crystals, or stabbed by Gurenki, their blood flowing into the thirsting blade, it's clear that the people behind this paid more attention to how the final product looks than you'd usually expect from such a title. However, despite all the color and powerful shot composition, there are some drawbacks that hold the art back. Namely, while the animation can be smooth and impressive, it cuts corners to make those moments possible, especially at certain points where it is abundantly clear that the characters are simply sliding around on an animation cell. Also, while it does blood well, it doesn't really have the strongest grasp on the mild gore it puts on display, with a loose grasp on bones and organs that makes it look a little silly, but thankfully these amateur anatomical moments are fleeting.

There is less to say of the sound, but it was overall good, meeting the basic standards of quality for the time. One particularly notable aspect of the sound, however, is the music- the music is kind of all over the place. Most of the time, it settles on this inoffensive jazzy background track with prominent saxophone and drums, and while this fades into the background most of the time, at other, more serious moments, it kind of feels distinctly out of place. Also, there's an odd track in episode 2 that is completely acapella, layered with several voices, some even doing a kind of percussion, and it is very strange. It feels really unsettling and otherworldly, which I suppose makes sense for the context, but I figured I'd mention it here regardless.

The characters are compelling and well-written, even with the limiting factor of this OVA's brief runtime, and of them, my favorites are our main duo, Lath and Anshu. As I said before, they're a good pair in terms of how their personalities contrast, but they're both also unique takes on their character types- Lath is a more complicated version of the chosen heroine, with a lot of traits and flaws that ensure she evades the Mary Sue pitfall, while Anshu is this witty trickster character that, while quite powerful, isn't all-powerful, also making him a more compelling version of his archetype. Overall, Hayou no Tsurugi is a very strong 90s fantasy OVA, and while it does harbor some of the flaws which are common to anime of this format, I still feel like it's a shame this was never officially picked up and given its time in the sun. All in all, this anime is definitely worth your time.

This is the greatest romcom story of ALL TIME and in ALL MEDIUMS it's not even close.
I've already read the manga but seeing the anime and living the story yet again is always a wonderful experience.
A story about a couple of students in their youth going through life and love, about coming terms to their own feelings, about not being afraid to confess love.
And ofcourse it's not just about romance either.

This was a decent piece of medieval storytelling. A bit aimless at certain points, but the main idea rings clear: what is it to be human? What separates good human beings from the bad behavior that corrupts and fails society time and time again?

Maybe I've just been unlucky, but I've been on this streak of animes where the first season was decent enough, but the second season was a gigantic pile of dog droppings. I'm glad to say my slump has been ended. I like this season even better than I liked season 1.

I'm not really sure why I decided to watch this. Maybe it was because the genre included femdom, and the cover image showed two girls dominating another, which seemed intriguing.

In reality, it's basically a story about two girls going to a karaoke bar and sexually assaulting everyone there. It's presented relatively "tastefully" without going over the top, but it turns out this anime is meant for fans of NTR, which I am not. Because of that, the whole thing felt kind of pointless to me.

I'll keep it short. This anime was interesting in the beginning, but the end was very meh. Plus very cartoonish villains (dialogue, actions etc).
The story is interesting, if not too simplistic. I'm not saying thats bad, just that I would've liked more. World-building also meh (same motive). Decent pacing ( until the last episodes, when I was waiting for it to be over already). The dialogue is ok-ish, with a lot of cringe lines when "evil people" are involved. Quite a few characters development but, again, just barely. The romance is there, but just barely, shy. Again, not a bad thing, but thats for when ... you have longer or multiple seasons. For now, you are left with only a taste of what the story might be about. If feels like they played it safe, everything is done in the right direction but not out of their comfort zone. The biggest "negative points" are: the dialogue and mannerism for the baddies, the cringe "too much" sugary acts of goodness from the people of Parnacorta. I know, I know, they wanted to make clear the differences between those two kingdoms and to be the reason as to why the saint changes. But it feels like a kind of story meant for the very young audience. Aka, kids/teen. The romance, the goodness, the villains... everything is done in a way to be enjoyed in a simpler manner. Again, not bad, just wasted potential. I'd say the sister saved this show. Extremely nice character arc (and VA). If this was done the same for all the other chars, well..... But nope. We got something simpler, with some decisions forced a certain way so that the plot goes the way it was intended. *sigh* Lets move on.
Very beautiful visuals. Thats what saves this anime. The art style is good, the color palette is good, the VFX are decent enough, at times even good. The designs are pretty much ok. The cinematography was ok most of the times, nothing fancy.
The audio. Again, decent/good. A decent enough soundtrack accompanies every episode, maybe mixed a bit louder than it should be, but most times you won't feel annoyed by it. Same for the diegetic sounds. But the OP is good. The song choice is in tune with the anime's theme and the cinematography for the visuals is very good. The ED song is decent/good, but the art style for the visuals is extremely beautiful. The VAs did a good job.

So, this is a "mixed feelings" with a rating of 6. This high rating mostly because of the visuals. Everything else is kinda going safe. You get a timid romance, a "timid" (tiny and safe) character development, acts on the extremes to show goodness or evilness. Yes, you might enjoy it, but the anime is not good enough for "recommended".
(Very fast: "I like this anime" is not the same with "this anime is good". Good is based on objective points as to why a trait is used in a right or a wrong way (the art style, pacing, script, vfx, sounds, directing etc). But you can enjoy media of lower quality (thats where "my guilty pleasure" comes from. You know it is bad, but for some reason you still enjoy it. And thats ok).
Return value? Dunno, don't think so. Maybe if there will be new seasons on the way, people will rewatch it. I won't, not even to refresh my memory what this was all about.
